Luke Rockhold And Tim Kennedy Debate Greg Jackson Game-Plans | Strikeforce News

By Jamie McAllister

Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold and Challenger Tim Kennedy debate about Greg Jackson's game planning on Tuesdays conference call before their main event showdown on July 14th at Strikeforce : Rockhold vs. Kennedy.

Rockhold admits he's not a fan of the Jackson game-plans.

"I think that’s kind of across the board," he said. "It's Tim’s style, it's his previous fights. I mean, there's a lot of fighters who come out of that camp, they have a smart game plan, they follow the game plan and it's not the most exciting game plan a lot of the times but it wins them fights sometimes. It doesn't excite me much. I'm not a big fan of his style."

He also feels Jackson tries to influence the judges by shouting various things from the corner.

"Also, he yells the guys names in the corner, like, 'Great job, beautiful low kick Tim Kennedy,' and this and that," he continued. "I think he tries to play into the minds of the judges a lot, and it's a form of, I think, cheating to some extent. I’m there to fight. I’m confident in my abilities, and I’m not going to let this fight slow down. Whatever he brings to the table, it's not really going to matter because I'm going to nullify it, and I'm going to play my game."

This past weekend Team Jackson-Winkeljohn came under fire after Clay Guida used lots of footwork and feints in a tactical strategy to attempt to avoid the power of Gray Maynard. Guida lost a split decision to Maynard. Prior to that Carlos Condit was heavily criticised for his tactics in his victory over Nick Diaz.

Tim Kennedy who trains at Jackson's feels the criticism is unwarranted and does not make any sense.

"It doesn't make any sense."

"That same night when people were harassing Clay Guida for his performance, we had the Knockout of the Night with Cub Swanson going out there and doing some insanity in the cage to finish one of the best kickboxers in the division. But did anybody mention what a great performance Cub Swanson had and how fantastic that finish was? And hey, Greg Jackson, congratulations for having Knockout of the Night ?"

"No, they were like, 'Clay was running,'" he continued. "Well, Gray hits really hard and he's a really great wrestler. I think that Clay had nearly the perfect game plan for that fight. It wasn't flawlessly executed. He should have done more sticking than he did moving, but he had the right idea, and it was an extremely close fight. And the Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit … I’m a Nick Diaz fan but if i was going to fight Nick Diaz, that’s how I’d fight him, is the way Carlos did. So I think the criticism is completely unfounded. I think Greg is a fantastic coach. We have more finishes, more knockouts, more submissions, more champions than any other camp out there. It’s asinine and I think it's just people lashing out at somebody's who's very talented at coaching fighters."

As far as Rockhold is concerned its nothing personal and says he's prepared for anything but is looking for a fight.

"I just hope he comes out and fights me in the middle and fights me everywhere," he said. "This is mixed martial arts. I quit wrestling for a reason; I want to fight. I'm looking for a fight."

A new found respect for rockhold for telling the truth about Greg boring ass jackosn and his cheating ass ways.  yelling in judges ear during all his fighters fights is total bullsh'it.  The man will do anything to sway the judges or abuse rules no matter how sleavy it is.  f'uck greg jackson i wish Dana would run his ass out of the UFC

So Donald cerrone, JonJones, Brian Stann, etc are boring fighters???? Or Diego brenadao?!?! Hahahaha imagine what words you would spew if Fitch was apart of Greg Jackson’s camp

You do realize that the Jackson camp is one of the most successful camps in MMA history, right? You realize far better fighters than Rockhold fight to be a part of the Jackson camp, right? Greg Jackson and his team have produced more highlight reel moment’s and fight of the night’s than most any other camp out there. Also, yelling in the judges ear? Are you kidding? Step into the cage once, even at the amateur level and tell me that you can hear your coach if he isn’t yelling at the top of his lungs. I can tell you, you can’t. Every coach does it, because that is how you communicate with your player. Also, using the whole name makes it easier for the fighter to distinguish information on the fly. You will notice that Greg Jackson is the only one in the Jackson camp allowed to yell the full name of his fighters, though other coaches/trainers are allowed to communicate to the fighter during the fight. It is to create a distinction (like a chain of command) amongst the coaches. But yes, clearly Jackson is wrong for doing what every coach does cage side when communicating with his fighters, and his strategies obviously fail most of the time… lol!

So Brian Stann, Jon Jones, Donald Cerrone, Diego Brenadao, etc etc are boring game plan fighters?! hahaha GTFO  i cant imagine the shit you would spew if Fitch was apart of Greg Jackson's camp

  3. the Natural says:

They all will eventually be that same style if Jackson can help it those guys u named didn’t start there career with Jackson except for maybe one or two but if Jackson can he will turn them into all pussys givin enough time some fighters just have there own style. And even no they get trained a certain way it’s still them in the cage doing what they want. If Jackson was in all there heads they would all be doing the guida slide and not fighting give him more time he will single handidly ruin mma. Jackson shld start a union if he’s really worried bout his fighters but he’s more worried bout how he’s preserved threw his fighters it’s jackson out there wen they win and the fighters fault wen they loose fuck off Jackson he’s a bitch and eventually all his fighters will b

  4. chris says:

The people who bring up the guys from that camp that are exciting are idiotic at best. If that is your best argument to defend Jackson then you have no argument at all. Anybody who watches the sport knows that Jackson is responsible for a lot of boring fights and game plans. Not to mention the guy is a scumbag. We all saw him turn on rashad so he could have his next world champ in Jones, then he tries to take credit for Jones but we all knew he would be champion(even though I hate him) and instead of defending guida and at least taking some blame saying yeah maybe it wasn’t the best gameplan, he goes and throws guida under the bus saying he didn’t follow the gameplan properly. He is such a dirtbag and I didn’t even get into him greasing up marquardt before the palhares fight(nate said Jackson gave him an oil to rub on his legs every night)

  5. Brend0magic says:

Rockhold spitting some truth on you fools.

  6. Nick says:

There are a few guys who are exciting from the Jackson camp like; Cerrone, Garcia, Carwin, Swanson, and Brandao to name a few. But when they have a flaw, that’s more than enough to overshadow their exciting fighters. It’s terrible and makes the camp look horrible. So it’s right to criticize them about that.

  7. jbeamazing says:

rockhold will smash Tim on the 14th
