Luiz Cane drops to middleweight to face Chris Camozzi at UFC 153 | UFC News
By: Chris Taylor
Luiz Cane (12-4 MMA, 4-4 UFC) has not entered the octagon in over a year due to injuries. Today it was announced that the former light heavyweight will be competing in his home country of Brazil at UFC 153. This time around, Cane will be competing in the middleweight division and his opponent will be Chris Camozzi (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC).
Cane most recently suffered a knockout loss to Stanislav Nedkov at UFC 134 in Rio. It served as Cane’s third loss in his past four fights. All of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blackbelts defeats have come by way of first round knockout. Cane’s recent skid comes on the heels of a three fight win streak, which included victories over the likes of Jason Lambert, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Steve Cantwell.
He faces Camozzi, who will be aiming for his third straight win in the octagon. Chris has recent stoppage victories over Dustin Jacoby and Nick Catone. The 25 year old Camozzi, who recently pulled out of a UFC 150 bout with Buddy Roberts due to an injury, has now won seven of his past nine and may very well serve Cane with his walking papers, if he is victorious at UFC 153.
UFC 153 takes place October 13th at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Featherweight champion Jose Aldo meets challenger Erik Koch in the evenings main event.
