Lamas Down But Not Out Over Recent Title Snubs
Ricardo Lamas feels like a man left out in the cold in the UFC featherweight division.
Lamas has won four straight and seven of the his last eight, including top names like Cub Swanson and Erik Koch.
But Lamas has been passed over, sometimes last minute, by Frankie Edgar (in a surprise announcement at UFC 156), Anthony Pettis, and now, with this weekend’s UFC 163, Chan Sung Jung
Lamas is wondering why the UFC keeps passing him over and expressed so on “The MMA Hour:”
“I went into a little depression for a few days. I was going through all this training and everything, and it’s out the window, all for nothing. It just kind of left me wondering why I’m getting passed over so much. It’s a little disheartening, you know?”
Lamas did say that UFC president Dana White called him to apologize and that lifted his spirits. White also mentioned that Lamas would get the next title shot.
“I just want to say, a lot of people don’t know about me as a fighter, a lot of people have counted me out of pretty much all of my fights, against Cub, against Hatsu, against Erik, and I’ve surprised everyone. And if they give me the shot against Jose Aldo, I’ll surprise everybody again.”
Lamas believes that Aldo will hold on to his title.
Do you think Lamas should get the winner of this weekend’s title match?
