WSOF 2 Results: Kick Helps Villefort Edge McCray in Final Preliminary Fight | MMA News
Danillo Villefort used a head kick to knock down Kris McCray en route to a split decision victory in the final preliminary bout at World Series of Fighting 2 on Saturday.
Villefort, fighting for the Blackzilians in Coconut Creek, Fla., hurt McCray with a right head kick near the end of the first round to cause most of the damage in the fight. Villefort (14-4) landed several punches after the kick to the grounded McCray (8-5), but was not able to finish the Toms River, NJ, fighter.
Two judges scored the fight 29-28 for Villefort, while the third had it 29-28 for McCray.
The fighters spent most of the first round jockeying for position on ground, before Villefort hurt McCray with several knees just before landing the head kick that launched McCray face forward.
To his credit, McCray came back and dominated most of the second round with his wrestling, though Villefort did gain the full mount in final minute but could inflict no damage.
Fighting often in the clinch, Villefort landed a barrage of knees and punches in the third to secure the win.
