KENDA PEREZ TAKES THE FANS INSIDE UFC 136 ON THIS WEEK'S EPISODE OF "THE ULTIMATE SHOW"
It’s all about UFC 136 on “The Ultimate Show” this week, as host Kenda Perez and Bleacher Report MMA Editor Brian Oswald delve into all the details for this Saturday’s highly-anticipated event. Taking place in Houston, Texas, UFC 136 is sure to set the fight world on its ear. In the main event, live on Pay-Per-View, UFC Lightweight Champion will look to defend his belt against the only man ever to beat him, “The Bully” Gray Maynard. Also featured on the card is Brian Stann, who joins TUS to chat about his opponent this Saturday, Chael Sonnen. In addition, Brian Oswald provides his pre-fight predictions for all of this weekend’s scraps.
The Edgar-Maynard title bout will be the third fight between these two warriors. In their first bout, Maynard handed Edgar the first loss of his career, which came back in 2008. The stakes are much higher this time around. Earlier this year, these two engaged in a high-paced five-rounder that saw them walk away with the empty feeling that accompanies a draw. Both will look to finally settle things once and for all and walk away from UFC 136 with both victory and the belt in hand. “It’s the third time we are fighting. There are not many secrets that we have to hide from each other,” says the champ. “It’s about making the right adjustments, and who can apply them the best.”
TUS is also joined by Brian Stann, who will face one-time UFC middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen on the main card. Stann talks about his opponent, who’s well-known for his ability to grapple, as well as build a fight and talk trash. A strong wrestler in his own right, Stann shares his preparation for the fight, and also discusses his status as the underdog in the fight. “In this instance, they just came out and said ‘you are fighting Chael Sonnen, and this is the fight Dana White wants,’” explains Stann. “The fight really intrigued me in that it was just another case in my life where everyone was going to tell me I couldn’t do something. So everyone is telling me I can’t win this fight. I’m a huge underdog, the biggest underdog I’ve ever been in any of my fights, and that’s the reason I accepted the fight as soon as I heard about it.” It should be a barnburner of a bout!
Also on “The Ultimate Show,” Bleacher Report MMA Editor Brian Oswald previews each of the UFC 136 bouts, and shares his thoughts on what many are calling the most stacked card in recent UFC history. So, will it be Leonard Garcia’s experience, or Nam Phan’s grueling pace that captures the victory? “Phan seems to have the style to beat Garcia by decision, assuming the judges sees things correctly.” Will Melvin Guillard’s speedy stand-up top Joe Lauzon’s proven ground game? “Guillard keeps the fight standing and eventually picks Lauzon apart, ending it with via TKO.” Will war hero Stann be able to employ his power punches against Sonnen’s seemingly unstoppable takedowns? “Sonnen won’t let this fight stay standing. He will drag Stann down into his wrestling wheelhouse and win via decision.” Will Jose Aldo’s leg-kicks or Kenny Florian’s razor-sharp elbows be the best weapon in this bout? “It might be safe to call ‘Ken-Flo’ the Buffalo Bills of UFC title fights. [It will be] Aldo by TKO.” And who will be the better fighter in the Edgar-Maynard affair? “Edgar makes the better halftime adjustments, and this time he comes out with a decision win.”
