Kelvin Gastelum Injured – UFC Looks For New Opponent For Court McGee
An undisclosed injury has taken Kelvin Gastelum out of his upcoming UFC on FOX 9 welterweight showdown with fellow “Ultimate Fighter” winner, Court McGee. A UFC official has confirmed the change, and noted that the promotion is keeping Court McGee on the card – so long as they find him an opponent.
This isn’t the first injury to hit UFC on FOX 9 – a flyweight title fight between champ Demetrious Johnson and challenger Joseph Benavidez headlines the card, but that was actually a replacement for a title fight between Anthony Pettis and Josh Thompson – Pettis had injured his knee, and had to pull out of the main event.
Gastelum vs. McGee was expected to take place on the night’s preliminary lineup, though an official bout order hasn’t been revealed.
As mentioned before, both Gastelum and McGee were past TUF winners – Kelvin beat out the heavily favored Uriah Hall in season 17, and McGee submitted Kris McCray to capture the season 11 trophy. Both fighters earned those championships in the middleweight division, and have since dropped down to welterweight, where they are both finding success.
A timetable for McGee’s return wasn’t immediately established.
