Josh Thomson vs. Caros Fodor targeted for Strikeforce: Melendez vs Healy | Strikeforce News

By: Chris Taylor
“Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy” takes place September 29th at Power Balance Arena in Sacramento, California. The night’s main card airs on Showtime, following the prelims which air on Showtime Extreme.
Josh Thomson (19-5 MMA, 10-3 SF) and fellow lightweight Caros Fodor (7-2 MMA, 5-1 SF) will likely square off as a part of the main card on September 29th. Although Strikeforce officials have made no official announcement, Thomson revealed the bout to Sherdog.
The American Kickboxing Academy product, Thomson, is looking to rebound from a split decision loss to current Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez. That fight served as the trilogy bout between the two veterans, but unfortunately it failed to deliver any real closure to their rivalry.
Thomson now faces Caros Fodor, after talks of a possible fourth fight between Thomson and Melendez were shut down by Strikeforce officials. The Matt Hume-trained Fodor, had won his first five strikeforce fights, climbing his way toward title contention, before suffering a submission loss to top-contender Pat Healy in March.
Both fighters will be looking to make a statement and get themselves back in to title contention.
The current Strikeforce: Melendez vs Healy event looks as follows:
- Champ Gilbert Melendez vs. Pat Healy (Strikeforce lightweight title)
- Adriano Martins vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg
- Caros Fodor vs. Josh Thomson
- Quinn Mulhern vs. Jorge Santiago
