EXCLUSIVE VIDEO| Josh Thomson Interview; Talks BJ, Kyle's KO of Cormier, Future
Josh Thomson is a lot of things. Former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion, former UFC Lightweight standout, AKA team member, and training partner for some of the best elite level fighters in MMA. He has fought on the biggest stages in MMA overseas, and here in the USA. He has fought injured, many times I might add, and never turned down a fight unless it was absolutely necessary. The position right now that all of this experience keeps him in – a perpetual number one contender status.
Thomson fought Gilbert Melendez three times and went 1-2. The last two fights of the trilogy were so close it could have gone either way. The bottom line is that Thomson sits in a shallow pool that just so happens to be filled with hungry sharks. Pat Healy, Ryan Couture, Caros Fodor, and other rising stars are right there at the top with him. Healy is fighting Melendez on September 29th, and Josh Thomson squares off against a very tough Caros Fodor.
Thomson’s opponent, Caros Fodor has an impressive MMA record of 7-2. His Strikeforce run consists of a 5 run win streak that was ended in his last fight by a slick Pat Healy submission. Caros has good striking and a solid ground game, but Thomson is probably his first real big name test. Fodor is about to fight at a higher level in Strikeforce – and MMA in general – than he has in his nine fight career. Josh is aware of how hungry Fodor is and that he would be the perfect stepping stone for Caros to vault fully in to the spotlight.
In this video interview Josh talks about training at BJ Penn’s Gym, BJ himself, Mike Kyle knocking out Daniel Cormier, his fight with Fodor, position in Strikeforce, and more. The jump is at the bottom of this page.
