Jones Says Hendo May Have To Worry About His One-Punch Knockout Power | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones comments to FUEL TV.

Jones is set to defend his title against former PRIDE and Strikeforce Champion Dan Henderson and he admits Henderson is not someone to be taken lightly.

“Dan Henderson’s right up there, I think he ranks as high as anybody I’ve fought in 2011. He’s a champion of every other organization in the world. He beat Fedor (Emelianenko) and Shogun (Rua) last year, he’s somebody not to be taken lightly,”

When asked about potential problems Henderson could cause him Jones prefers to call them challenges to rise up to. On top of that Jones is also confident that Henderson wont bring anything he has not seen before.

“I’m not going to call anything problems. They’re more like challenges to rise up to; things to be excited by. To be honest with you, he has a good overhand right, a good left hook, strong wrestling, nothing I haven’t seen before,”

Henderson has got the knockout over his opponent in four of his last five victories however don’t be surprised if Jones is the one who gets the knockout victory this time around. Jones states that he has been working on sitting down on his shots and improving his power.

“Everyone’s talking about Dan Henderson’s knockout power; it might just be a one-punch knockout for me this time.”

“The biggest thing I’ve been doing differently is just learning how to put people down. We’re realizing by watching my own fights, my coaching staff and I, that I am becoming a pretty good kickboxer, but I’m not dropping anybody. So we’re working on foundation, using your legs, working on power,”

The champion is also closing in on former Light-Heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz title defence record (Five) and a win over Henderson will put him just one behind Ortiz with four consecutive defences. Jones  admits the record is a motivating factor for him.

“I’m closing in on Tito Ortiz’s record, one of the greatest light heavyweights of all time,” said Jones. “That’s something that also motivates me to just keep hitting it hard.”

The future goat will finish Hendo like he’s done with the rest of the elite, KOing Hendo would be epic!

    • HELL YEAH! says:

Couldn’t agree with you more Mr. Magoo.

    • axeholes says:

People are forgetting that Jones has way more ways to KO Henderson, than Henderson does KO’ing Jones.

Henderson is gonna eat long-distance jabs. He’s gonna eat right straights. He’s gonna eat kicks that are way out of his range.
If he lunges in to do an H-bomb, he’s gonna eat a long-distance knee as he dips his head in to do it.

Jones ain’t scared, not at all.

  2. danielrchargers says:

Reading the words of Jon Jones, he sounds like a broken mike Goldberg at a UFC event….its a challenge THAT I’LL RISE UP TOO!
when in reality all he wants to say is, fuck Henderson’s right hand, I’m going to knock him out myself…
But he’s a primadana so that’s not hapenning.

  3. dave says:

He has never knocked out anyone, and dan has a really good chin so I doubt it will be a ko maybe a tko at most.

    • Magoo says:

Yea well Rampage was never subbed before he fought JBJ we all know how that played out never under estimate the skills of Mr Jones!

      • The_Gooch1 says:

I seem to remember Sakuraba choking the shit out of Quinton. Yeah he tapped

      • Shawn says:

Don’t over estimate one’s skills. Everyone had Fedor winning, hands down. Look how that turned out. Jones may have reach, but does he have a chin. We’ll find out. Hendo has an iron chin, and will eat punched to close the gap for an overhand right, or a takedown. True, what Hendo brings to the table isn’t anything new to Jones. Except for one thing, Henderson just does them a little better than Jone’s other opponents. Jones better not take him lightly. Or its night night.

        • Rob says:

Yeah Jon has chin. When he ate a head kick from Rashad Evans in their fight he shook it off and backed away when most LHW’s would’ve been floored or dazed. I’m expecting to see Jones on his back a bit verse Henderson. But as for on the feet Jones has too much of an advantage. But Henderson still has that right over hook power and an amazing chin. On the feet i’d give the advantage to Jones, then if Jones is on top he has the advantage, and if Henderson gets on top he has the advantage. Henderson’s gonna need to knock him out on the feet or TKO him on the ground cuz Jones will most definetly win if it goes to decision.

    • Pancho says:

Yeah he didn’t knock out Shogun or anything -.-

  4. BJ is KING says:

as much as i dislike jones i dont see anyone beating him in light heavyweight OR heavyweight. Hes just too professional, knows fighters in and out and how to beat them, just too unpredictable along with his physical gifts. Smart fighter too… the guy is massive, when hes training for a fight he is a huge guy, I saw him recently and he looked, at least 100kg, maybe even 105kg (around 220-230 pounds). Machida might catch jones but jones, hes not stupid and i dont think anyone is going to catch him with a single punch knockout.

  5. Xaninho says:

I think anyone can get caught by a one punch KO. I’m curious to see if Jones has really made big improvements to his stand-up. Up until now I never thought very highly about his stand-up, it was effective but very sloppy. If he really improves the striking I think he’s unstoppable in 205.

  6. The_Gooch1 says:

You can’t train punching power. People are born with it. So I doubt he will develop a 1 punch KO all of a sudden.

  7. Jeff says:

Pompous Ass, I hope Hendo breaks your f&*%ing jaw!

  8. Blade says:

I’m going to watch this fight but mute the tv I can’t stand Joe Rogan’s commentary during a JBJ fight its like hes sucking this dudes cock the whole fight. I doubt the kick has KO power in his fists elbows yes fists or kicks NO.

  9. Joe Smith says:

Once you KO a few opponents johny then u can say this.but who have u knocked out cold?

  10. Dude Manguy says:

This is one of the funniest headlines I’ve ever read. BAHAHAHAHAHA

That dude can’t bust a grape. Please Jon, ignore your elbows, try to land that “KO punch”. It’ll be a great night for Hendo and his fans like me.

  11. Ddddd says:

Shit I think all you dorks trying to anticipate an
Unpredictable matchup is a better fight than Jons oversized, overconfident ass is gonna be
You can be cerebral if your not an airhead

  12. awkwardhawk says:

With all due respect, for all the talent and ability that Jon Jones has, one punch knockout power is not one of them. Sorry.

  13. Rob says:

You people are complete idiots. It doesn’t take that much power to knock somebody out it’s more about where you hit them… Anybody who knows how to throw a punch can knock somebody out. The jaw is one of the best places to knock somebody out. Can Jones knock him out with one punch? Yes. Will he? Most likely not. Stop acting like you know shit faggots.
