Jones challenges Lauzon to grappling match
Some friendly banter between UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones and one of the best submission specialist in the UFC Lightweight division Joe Lauzon took place yesterday via Twitter.
The Twitter battle began when the champ began to poke at Lauzon saying:
“Hey somebody tell @JoeLauzon i’d beat him in a jujitsu match with my hands taped closed”
Lauzon was of course quick to retort. Accepting the challenge saying:
“@JonnyBones this can be arranged!”
The two continued in their light verbal spat. It was all in good fun of course with Jones mentioning a charity event in the future. Then, later on into the conversation, Jones attempted to back out of the match and suggested Phil Davis as a proper stand in. Lauzon was quick to call out the champ, who is so obviously dominant in his weight class of monsters, for attempting to bail on a matchup with a lightweight. Jones’ pride made him quickly accept the challenge.
Joe was quick to assure everyone new to the conversation that this match is strictly in Gi Jui-Jitsu and that he is well aware that Jones would obviously have the upper hand in an MMA match.
Though the conversation was simply friendly banter between two great fighters watching the two roll for a charity event would be more than entertaining. Especially with Jones having his hands taped together.
The twitter battle continued for some time with comments made from Twitter followers suggesting some interesting ideas such as a season of TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) with Jones and Rashad Evan’s as coach. The champ was quick to accept that challenge as well.
The hypothetical grappling match between Jones and Lauzon will most likely never take place, but lets not allow that from stopping us from hoping. It would be rather interesting to watch one of the most highly decorated submission artists (Lauzon holds the record for most Submission of the Night honors in UFC history) and the youngest and one of the most talented fighters in the UFC who happens to be a fantastic wrester as well wrap up and see you has the skills to back up all this talk.
So, lets hear it Penn Nation! Who do you think would come out with the “W” considering the circumstances? Would Jon Jones- with his hands taped behind his back- have what it takes to beat Joe Lauzon, or would Joe tap out the champ? Let us know what you think!
