Jon Jones Thinks His UFC 151 Issues Have Taught The UFC TO Give The Fans Deeper Cards | UFC NEWS

“I think in the future, this can make me and Dana even better off. For him to get out how he felt about me in that situation, it will help me look at things more business-oriented. A lot of good can come out of it. Fighters can learn the lesson of doing what’s best for themselves and not feeling like puppets. I think the UFC has learned a lesson of making sure they stay loyal to the fans and give them full cards.”

UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones told the media recently that he believes nothing but good can come from the UFC 151 cancellation many have blamed him for.

When the UFC builds an entire pay-per-view card around one marque match-up and that fight gets sidelined with a week to spare, is the UFC to blame for not stacking the card? Has the pressure of expanding the brand and putting on more shows tainted the quality of each card?

Speak on it Penn Nation!

So basically he is saying ” I did it for the fans”….. what a douche….

DOENS’T mean you use the same MMA stories from last week, !

  3. MMA says:

Jones, who the fuck are you to be teaching anybody lessons in the business world?! Just fight! Good god damn boy, close your mouth and put your hands up.

  4. Nuthugger says:

I don;t get all the hate? It was Dana’s fault the card was weak. Let’s look at it from another view……JBJ rings Dana up with a week to go to his fight with Vitor…”Dana, I’d rather fight Brandon Vera again, he was an easy win”….amongst all the profanities, Dana would say “you are contracted to fight Vitor, you signed the contract, so get fighting him or i sue you”…….that’s what would happen. Yet Dana thinks it’s fine because HE decided that JBJ should fight Sonnen, different to the contract he signed. What a load of crap Dana gives…..why can’t he just take the blame? It IS his fault.

Gimme a break bones…. i was a huge fan until u refused to fight chael….. even the nerdiest loser in the world would jump at the opportunity to break that man’s teeth….. Now you are trying to do a little bit of damage control… by putting blame on the UFC, c’mon man dont patronize us… if we stop watching ur fights than the purse wont be as big, and you will then be irrelevant. And that would mean you are responsible for making 205 as interesting as boxing… Ill never buy ur PPV again, chump

I think maybe people will realize Dana White does not have the best interest of his fighters nor the fan at heart. But only the pocketbook and bank accounts of him and the Fertitas! I am amazed that Zuffa does not put him in his place. Running his mouth and going off like a bipolar bufoon! And yes, the UFC is putting on way too many shows now. And it has thinned out their brand and shown how it can be weak if not run properly. I am so happy that MMA is going the way that it has, by becoming the greatest and most popular combat sport around. But there is a limit to how many matches you can have, especially big matches out there, Without expecting some sort of fall out when things go wrong. But everyone involved was to blame. Not just 1 individual, or team, or coach, etc.

  7. rw says:

    great point nuthugger , that’s a fact !!

  8. Pussss says:

Jon Jones you are still a puss.

    PS: Fuck you

  9. Sugar Ponybear says:

Not going to lie, Jones has a point. Still a douche and maybe not the smartest way to put it, but good point.

  10. Eddie Royer says:

Have you folks even seen Boxing PPV cards? They sell ONE fight.

  11. Glenn says:

H-Bomb, u said exactly what I was thinking. Jones being the champ should’ve taken the fight regaurdless, thats what real champions do. However, he can not be blamed for the cancellation of 151. The UFC KNEW that card was weak at best and that the title fight was the only reason fans would’ve bought the ppv. Personally I wasn’t going to pay my 50 dollars for it, but maybe now they will give us quality fights over quantity.

  12. DMAC says:

Bunch of under achieves trying to tell Bones what he should’ve done! Hahahhaha

  13. G says:

With only, like, 25-29 guys per weight class, it’s hard to always have “deep” cards. I like when it’s two or three “main” fights per card and six or seven “undercard” fights. It just works that way. Don’t change too much, nothing is broken. UFC 151 was just a weird misstep. I love you, UFC!

  14. you can blame it on the UFC but Dana obviously had no idea at all(especially with the shit Jones was talking on Chael) that Jones would turn down that fight….Chael had no camp and was taking his first fight at LHW in years. Dana was pissed because Jones said he would fight anyone, anytime and with the beef between him and Chael Dana thought it was a good deal and he had a main event. Therefore he took it out on Jones and with good reason…IMHO.

  15. Bjj BB says:

If the ufc is trying to sell one fight like boxing then they will lose alot of money!! Boxing can get away with it cause that one fight there selling can go for 12 rounds, mma, has 5 at most and most likely might not even go all 5 rounds, i agree with jbj on this one and i also think he should of fought sonnen but i respect his call and reason for not taking it, ask yourself this, if bj penn turned down a fight cuzz he thought what he thought, would he be scared? Coward? Not a real champ? Only about the money? Dont care about the ufc and the fans? NO! But the reason y jbj gets all the hate is cause hes still new and no1 likes the new guy who steals all the attintion from who ever had it 1st! Grow up ppl its just mma!

  16. Sugar Ponybear says:

Wasn’t it Jones boasting about his PPV sales though? Weak card or not, if his self proclimations were true he’d sell out that gate and sell more PPV’s than ever regarless of who he fought. Whether he fought Sonnen or Marvin Eastman.

  17. Xaninho says:

UFC sponsored him and had his back when he messed up driving around drunk wrapping his Bentley around a telephonepole. Now the UFC needs a favor he’s bringing on the all-business talk? He could have shown a bit more gratitude than this.

  18. maurice says:

shut ur dumbasses up already. its very weird that ppl including dana white, can blame the damn champion for this mess. jones didnt put together a shitty ass card. jones didnt pull out of the fight because of injury. jones simply said he aint risking his title that he worked so hard for, for a piece of shit loser who has literally nothing to lose. jones would have retired chael, and absolutely nothing would have been proven. if jones would have somehow lost, taking the fight on only 8 days notice would have haunted him for the rest of his life. dana is spazzing out blamin, hendo, jones, machida, etc.

dana has been the same since day 1, when he doesnt get his way he will throw ANYONE under the bus, including the person the ufc has been trying to market as the best thing since anderson silva. actually everything works out absolutely perfect. jones gets to headline a real card, with two major fights under him on the main card. ufc 152 is looking like a huge card, and it absolutely blows ufc 151 away.

very weird that everyone is to blame, except dana, fertittas and joe silva. if bj, jds, gsp etc etc turned down fights on 8 days notice u guys wouldnt say shit, other then its dana fault. but when the anti christ jones turns down a fight he is a demon, a pussy, etc etc. this shit is ridicoulous. im glad jones stood of for himself, cause at the end of the day he is the one that has to step in that cage. lots of fighters were offered to fight jones on 8 days notice, but those same mother fuckers said no, for the exact same reasons.

when a fighter does something he doesnt like, he literally tries to destroy all ur credibility. just ask bj, jones, anderson silva, mayhem, fedor, shogun, machida, bitch ass fitch, guida, and many many more. as long as u bring money in dana doesnt care wat u do. gsp is one of the worst lay n prayers of all time, dana knows this, but he doesnt say shit because fans still love gsp and live in his glory days when he could actually finish someone. chael can become a big bad racist who rants for years straight about real personally shit, but dana doesnt care cus all he sees is $$$ signs.

id listen to the coaches who got me where i am today, not some bipolar jacksass who needs to step down and let the fertittas run this shit.

  19. the truth says:

You didnt have time to get ready for Sonnen, really? Dude i looked up to u. Not anymore your scared of a middleweight. poon tang!
