John Makdessi out with injury, Rafaello Oliveira now meets Edson Barboza at UFC 162

UFC officials announced late Thursday that the new lightweight bout for July’s UFC 162 card would be Oliveira vs. Barboza. John Makdessi was originally slated to face Barboza but an injury has forced him off the card.

On July 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Oliveira will be fighting for the first time in a year when he faces Barboza. In January Barboza rebounded from his first career loss by submitting Lucas Martins at UFC on FX 7 in his native Brazil.

Oliveira returned to the UFC in 2011 where he lost two straight fights, one to Gleison Tibau and the other to Yves Edwards. He then outpointed Yoislandy Izquierdo at UFC 148 on July 7, 2012.

Edson Barboza took his first professional MMA loss at UFC 146 when he lost to Jamie Varner via TKO (punches) in the first round. Barboza bounced back in impressive fashion when he defeated Lucas Martins via submission (punches) in the first round at UFC on FX 7.

  1. Nate "THE CHEAT" Marquardt says:

Typical of a TRISTAR fighter to get out of a bad matchup

    No doubt whatsoever farazi habababiabiabai
