John Maguire drops to 155 to fight Mitch Clarke at UFC 161 | UFC NEWS

John Maguire has decided to change weight classes, again, and move to Lightweight to fight Mitch Clarke at UFC 161.

Maguire (18-5), who started his professional career at Middleweight, will be changing weight classes for the second time in his career. In 2010 he decided to move to Welterweight, and he posted consecutive victories over Justin Edwards and DeMarques Johnson. The streak was ended after he lost to John Hathaway at UFC on FUEL TV 5, and then he lost to Matt Riddle at UFC 154. The move to Lightweight is an attempt to get back to his winning ways, and could be considered a must-win.

Following consecutive losses to John Cholish and Anton Kuivanen, Clarke (9-2) also finds himself in a must-win situation. When he entered the UFC, the highly touted Lightweight prospect was undefeated having won his first nine fights.

Being apart of the already deeply talented Lightweight division, there is no doubt that the loser most likely will be cut from the UFC.

UFC 161 is scheduled for June 15th at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and features the interim Bantamweight Championship title fight between Renan Barao vs. Eddie Wineland. The card also has Dan Henderson vs. Rashad Evans, and Mauricio Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Any belt earned in Britain is worth less than the plastic and glitter that it was made with

  2. Alan says:

I hope he actually does something in this fight. I wanted to root for him against Hathaway, being Irish myself, but it was one of the worst fights I’ve ever seen.

  3. 123 says:
