John Dodson hopes to return in May, plans on knocking out Mighty Mouse

Former UFC Flyweight number one contender, John Dodson (14-6 MMA, 3-1 UFC), has earned 3 of his 5 career octagon wins by form of knockout.

Dodson, who has been out of action since November with a knee injury, is hoping to¬†raise¬†his KO percentage to 67% by earning his fourth knockout in six tries when he¬†returns to action, as he told¬†Bleacher Report‘s Duane Finley in a recent interview:

“Whoever they put in front of me I’m going to put them to sleep. I’m hoping to get a fight in either May or June. I’m in the gym right now and I’m testing out my knee. I have to make sure I’m doing things right and come back right. I can’t just sit there — take those little ins and outs — and hope to just pop through this. Taking that route will only minimize my chances to have a long-standing career. Being out has sucked, but I want to make sure I’m in the best possible shape I can be in to come back and get the wins I need to earn a shot at the title. I want to knockout D.J. That sounds bad but I want to put him to sleep. Nothing against him, it’s just how I want to win the title.”

A rematch with Johnson shouldn’t be that hard to come by for Dodson, as the flyweight division is currently lacking a true #1 contender. Plus, Dodson gave “Mighty Mouse”¬†arguably his toughest fight at¬†2013’s “UFC on FOX 6″ event, knocking the champ down on two separate occasions. Hopefully John can get his knee healthy and return on his quest¬†to once again vie for¬†UFC flyweight gold.
