Joe Lauzon Plans To Overwhelm Melvin Guillard

“If I catch him in a submission, it’s gonna be crazy; if he knocks me out, it’s gonna be a good knockout, and if I knock him out, the same thing. No matter how it ends, I think it’s gonna be a great fight,” Lauzon excitedly stated.

“You get a lot of guys that are just so content with winning, whether that means shoot a takedown and just kinda grind it out or whatever they have to do,” said Lauzon. “But that’s never been me, and I would fight a guy like Melvin a hundred times over a slow, boring wrestler that’s just gonna take you down and play it super safe and just grind it out. If I get knocked out, submitted, or whatever, I’m not really that upset. If I know I trained hard and I prepared hard and I lose, then so be it. But to have a guy just take you down and lay on top of you and not try to do anything, why even bother? Why fight if you want to just lay on top of something.”

“I don’t think either one of us are gonna have defense in mind all that much. We’re both trying to overwhelm the other person,” he concluded.

Joe Lauzon tells UFC.com that he looks forward to fighting exciting fighters like Melvin Guillard, and is expecting nothing short of an great fight at UFC 136. With both fighters known to look for finishes, and a contrasting style match up, I think many would be surprised if this fight went the distance. Will Lauzon be able to secure the submission and derail Guillard’s title shot hopes, or will it be Melvin scoring the knockout and moving one more step closer to a shot at UFC gold?

    just scarp joe!

  11. mmaislandjunkie says:

i like joes mentality, nice to know theres fighters out there that just like to scrap.

    • ThaGreenBandit says:

Great mentality to have, but I think he may be putting himself in a bad position if he don’t scrap wisely. Go out there and just start throwin’ them things with Melvin, and he gonna wake up looking at the ceiling lights. Lauzon is a scrapper, but his best chance lies in quick, slick sub.

  12. Random Person says:

You never know. Joe was supposed to be a can for Jens Pulver…

    • ThaGreenBandit says:

True. Not saying his standup sucks or anything like that, because it doesn’t. I just don’t think it would be smart for him to stay on his feet too long with Guillard because their standup isn’t on the same level. Just like his ground game is head and shoulders above Guillard’s, we can say the same thing when comparing Guillard’s standup to J-Lau’s. But, like you say, you never know…

  13. rondo says:

highlight reel KO for Melvin,Joes standup sucks!
