EXCLUSIVE | Joe Duarte: Ryan Couture never fought nobody like me | MMA NEWS

Just Scrap Radio Episode 10 guest Joe Duarte is coming off a 5 fight wining streak and now preparing to fight Ryan Couture son of the UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture on July 14 in the Rose Garden at Portland, OR Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy
Joe Duarte describes himself as a family man – proudly having a daughter. The fighter’s day starts with morning conditioning, then he goes back home with his family, afternoon training and topped off with a long run.
“This camp started early prior to getting the contract. I wanted to start this 12 weeks out. I’m in really good shape. I feel good. I’m excited to fight, man."
Q: What do you think about fighting Ryan Couture – Randy’s son the in Portland, OR?
Joe Duarte:
"I haven’t fought since August. I’ve just been working on getting better. Working on a lot of my game. I actually put my gi back on for awhile. I’m trying to get my black belt – I’ve been a brown belt for almost 3 years.
When I found out, since the July card came out I started training. It was either him or Healy and they gave me Ryan – either way I’m excited.
I think he’s very underated. I also think a lot of guys a lot of stars are born because they‘re under dogs that get overlooked and they make names on things like that but I think after his last fight – he came into his own. He proved that he can fight with tough guys and win so I’m excited. I’m not overlooking this guy at all and I look forward to the fight. He’s Randy[Couture]‘s son. I know he’s gonna have a good game plan. I know he’s gonna have good coaching. I know his style greco, more jiu jitsu stuff like that – I’m ready for it."
Q: How do you see this fight playing out?
Joe Duarte:
"I think I have a lot of experience fighting the bigger fights and fighting with more pressure. I’ve been to war – I guess after going through war and stuff like that. I learn to enjoy fighting.
I think people take fighting to personal to a point where they let it affect every aspect of thier life.
Fighting is my job. I feel more relaxed in my last 2 fights than any other fight just becasue I stopped letting fighting take over so much of my life.
When I come home, I’m all about my family, I don’t want to think about it, I don’t watch fighting when I’m not fighting, half the time I’m just looking at the internet to keep up with the fights.
I think this fight I’m gonna be really relaxed and that’s when I’m most dangerous. I’ve been training a lot. My boy KJ Noons has been helping me a lot with learning how to relax before a fight at the end of the day I’m coming home to my family and that’s all that matters.
The way the fight is goin to play out – I expect he’s going to be tough. I’m gonna hit him a couple of times and he’s gonna clinch. We’ve been working on that with some greco and freestyle guys.
I just think he’s never fought nobody like me yet in his carrer with experience that I have and fighting on tv more. I think that’s gonna play a big part in this fight whether it goes the distance or not."
