Jamie Varner vs. James Krause added to UFC 173 card
A new bout has been added to the annual Memorial Day weekend card scheduled for Las Vegas, NV as former WEC champ Jamie Varner ( 21-9-1 MMA, 3-4 UFC) faces off against James Krause (20-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a fight in the lightweight division.
The bout was initially reported via Twitter by @FrontRowBrian and later confirmed.
Jamie Varner is an MMA veteran that is never boring to watch. Though he has been on a losing streak as of late he is still one of the more dynamic fighters to look for in the lightweight division. At UFC 146, 2012’s Memorial Day weekend, Varner was able to do what no other man had in stopping Edson Barboza via first round knock out.
He followed that victory with a “Fight of the Night” performance in his bout with Joe Lauzon. And though he lost that fight it still shines on his career as a great performance. With a series of ups and downs Varner’s teeter-totter has ended on another “Fight of the Night” performance, but unfortunately another loss in his bout with Abel Trujillo via knockout.
Krause has had relative success since entering the UFC when he fought Sam Stout at UFC 161 on short notice. Krause won both “Submission of the Night’ and “Fight of the Night” as he was able to finish Stout with only 13 seconds left in their bout.
Krause’s last bout, a TKO loss against Bobby Green in a controversial decision win. The loss marked the breaking point of Krause’s eight fight streak.
This is sure to be an exciting fight as both Varner and Krause are known to put on a show.
The bout is scheduled to be on the main card of UFC 173 on May 24 which features a middleweight title bout against current UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman and No. 1 contender Vitor Belfort live on Pay-Per- View. The prelims are scheduled to air on FOX Sports 1 and also the UFC Fight Pass.
Also scheduled to appear on the UFC 173 card:
Chris Holdsworth vs. Kyung Ho Kang
Doo Ho Choi vs. Sam Sicilia
