Jake Shields: My dad would want me to go out there and shine and that’s what I am going to do

“It’s a little overwhelming, a little weird, but I just felt that with this fight I need to push through it, move forward. That’s what he would have wanted… It’s going to be a little weird because he was always in my corner, but it’s one of those things you have to stay strong and work through it. I had such a good father in my life for the 32 years that I had him. I look at the positives instead of the negatives, and he was my biggest fan. I know he’d want me to go out there and shine and that’s what I’m planning on going out there and doing.”
At 67 years of age, Jack Shields, father to Jake, passed away unexpectedly and left the UFC welterweight fighter fatherless and manager-less all within the same moment.
Jake recently went on mmaweekly.com radio to express his feelings about his loss and explain that he never thought about withdrawing from the fight, rather, he pulls motivation to go out and succeed in the name of his father.
In his way is the always tough Jake Ellenberger. Ellenberger has been surging through the welterweight ranks and is currently riding a four-fight win-streak.
With fight night just two days away who ya got?

lol way to digress sir. good job
not a big fan of Shields but I will be rooting for him for this fight. I can imagine how he will feel when it comes to fight day and he looks at his corner and doesn’t see his father. I would break down crying because you’ll finally realize that your dad is really gone and how much it meant to you that your dad was in your corner. WAR SHIELDS!
yeah he has earned a ton of my respect for still fighting
god bless you man
same as everyone, not a fan of jake but i hope he wins after dealing with this huge loss.
