Jake Ellenberger Predicts Quick Work of Rory MacDonald at Upcoming UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle

| The stakes are almost as high as they can possibly get as Jake Ellenberger (29-6 MMA) prepares to go to battle with fellow top-ranked UFC welterweight, Rory MacDonald (14-1 MMA), on July 27th at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle, Washington.

Ellenberger, who has proven his toughness, grit, and worthiness of a #4 ranking in the UFC welterweight division by amassing an impressive 8-2 record inside the octagon, will have his hands extremely full as he looks to topple one of the sport’s brightest prospects in Rory MacDonald.

MacDonald is the #3 ranked competitor in the UFC welterweight division and this fight could very well determine Ellenberger’s fate in fighting for the UFC welterweight strap. MacDonald, who is a training partner and protege of current Champion GSP, will likely place himself in the front of the contention line with a win over Ellenberger as well, although it is unclear whether Rory will take a fight against St. Pierre at this point in time.

Both men have put together impressive resumes inside the UFC cage and are proven finishers. They have only a couple of close losses between the two of them…and those losses were to top-tier competitors (both men have dropped losses to Carlos Condit and Ellenberger was also TKOed by Martin Kampmann in a fight that he was dominating until he got caught in the 2nd round). Ellenberger, however, feels that his credentials far surpass those of MacDonald and wants to prove that his talents will outmatch Rory in their meeting at the end of July.

Ellenberger recently spoke with Bleacher Report and gave a couple of quick comments about MacDonald’s accolades and how he saw their fight playing out. Here is an excerpt from his interview with Bleacher Report:

“This is a huge, pivotal fight for the welterweight division,” Ellenberger said. “It can set the tone for the division going into the end of the year. It’s a huge fight and there is no bigger place than on Fox. Then you factor in that I don’t like him, and that should make it fun to watch. I just don’t like him and it’s something I’m definitely looking forward to.

“I love how much the media has pushed him, and that makes it better for me. They like to embellish this young kid. Rather than base things on his accomplishments, it’s more about his potential. I really don’t know why, to be honest with you. Rory is as fake as the food he is named after…there is a restaurant in Lincoln, Nebraska named Rory’s.

“This is how this fight is going to go,” Ellenberger offered in conclusion. “Buffer screams. Rory runs. Jake swings. Rory sleeps. Crowd screams.”

So now that Ellenberger has given his best Ali impression with his predictions heading into his fight with Macdonald, do you think his comments are valid? And do you think a win over Rory places him at the front of the contention line for a title shot? Let’s hear some predictions of your own, Penn Nation! Sound off!

How did MacDonald jump up to #3 status?

    • GET RID OF Nate "THE CHEAT" Marquardt (FOREVER) says:

If ROIDY Mac didn’t train at Tristar he wouldn’t have the million dollar Joe Rogan OVERHYPE machine moving him to top of the rankings without beating a top 10 fighter. ROIDYS #3 ranking is based solely on potential. Why is it EVERY other UFC WELTERWEIGHT has had to earn their ranking in the cage EXCEPT ROIDY Macdonald???????

  2. magoo says:

Prediction Rory Mac is gonna give Ellenburger the beating of his career!!

  3. GRT 3000 says:

yeah…I think the big weirdo prob. has this one too.

  4. Sasquatch says:

This should be a barn burner! Jake’s cardio is suspect so I’m leaning towards Rory.. wouldn’t surprise me if Jake won by KO though.

  5. squid says:

i honestly can’t see how rory is ranked above jake. i know he’s on a 4-fight win streak and jake’s only on 2… but, jake has faced higher quality opponents.

i gotta go with ellenberger on this one. rory’s got youth, tristar, conditioning and a well-rounded game on his side, but i think ellenberger’s power, aggression and experience will be the difference. i think he will catch rory eventually

somehow i feel rory’s gonna find a way to get out of this fight via injury or cut again

    • squid says:

btw, a win over an undersized, overage bj penn at 170 doesn’t count. i love the guy, but he hasn’t been relevant at 170 for years. che mills was tearing up rory on the feet but like most english fighters, they’re mostly strikers with hardly any wrestling/TDD. nate diaz, another natural 155’er, middle of the pack 170, mike pyle is the probably the only solid ufc win rory has

    • GET RID OF Nate "THE CHEAT" Marquardt (FOREVER) says:

ROIDY has done nothing to EARN his ranking except back out of 3 fights in last 2 years so he and his butt buddy GSP can study the other WW while Rory moves up ranking without Fighting.

Condit, Hendricks, Ellenberger, Kampmann, PIerce, etc do all the fighting while ROIDY backs out of all his fights.

Who has ROIDY beaten in top 10? to earn a top 5 ranking???

Also if Ellenberger wins it will be Hendricks vs Ellenberger after GSP backs out week or two before the fight (TRISTAR STRATEGY)

If ROIDY beats Jake it will be ROIDY vs Hendricks in Nov after GSP backs out with a stubbed toe or pulled abductor or a FAKE OUIE in his knee

iv wanted to see this fight for ages & they dont like eachother, should be good.

  8. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Realistically speaking I think Pizzaback has the best chance of winning, but I sure hope Ellenberger proves me wrong and knocks him out.

  9. Dddddddd says:

I’m not looking to argue but I can’t help realize this is a perfect match. Ellenbergers wins are to Marquart and Heiron
and got beat by Kampman. Heiron isn’t even with the UFC anymore and his fight with Heiron was a pretty bad performance. Rory would kill Marquart or Heiron and I mean finish them. They both beat Pyle and we’re both beat by Condit. Ellenberger definitely has more wins in the UFC but he hasn’t had that tough of a go Shields,Howard,Sanchez
And the most impressive being Peirson. I think Penn,Diaz, mills and he looked better in the Condit fight till he gassed gives Rorry a more impressive streak. I think it’s at least debatable and that means its a good match.

  10. mm says:

i like jake a lot…but he couldn’t put martin kampman away. rory will outwrestle jake and TKO him or decision him.

rory hasn’t been knocked out yet and I don’t see jake being the one to put him out.

  11. Hyperfire says:

Excuse me but didnt Condit knock out Rory?
