Jake Ellenberger Predicts Quick Work of Rory MacDonald at Upcoming UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle
| The stakes are almost as high as they can possibly get as Jake Ellenberger (29-6 MMA) prepares to go to battle with fellow top-ranked UFC welterweight, Rory MacDonald (14-1 MMA), on July 27th at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle, Washington.
Ellenberger, who has proven his toughness, grit, and worthiness of a #4 ranking in the UFC welterweight division by amassing an impressive 8-2 record inside the octagon, will have his hands extremely full as he looks to topple one of the sport’s brightest prospects in Rory MacDonald.
MacDonald is the #3 ranked competitor in the UFC welterweight division and this fight could very well determine Ellenberger’s fate in fighting for the UFC welterweight strap. MacDonald, who is a training partner and protege of current Champion GSP, will likely place himself in the front of the contention line with a win over Ellenberger as well, although it is unclear whether Rory will take a fight against St. Pierre at this point in time.
Both men have put together impressive resumes inside the UFC cage and are proven finishers. They have only a couple of close losses between the two of them…and those losses were to top-tier competitors (both men have dropped losses to Carlos Condit and Ellenberger was also TKOed by Martin Kampmann in a fight that he was dominating until he got caught in the 2nd round). Ellenberger, however, feels that his credentials far surpass those of MacDonald and wants to prove that his talents will outmatch Rory in their meeting at the end of July.
Ellenberger recently spoke with Bleacher Report and gave a couple of quick comments about MacDonald’s accolades and how he saw their fight playing out. Here is an excerpt from his interview with Bleacher Report:
“This is a huge, pivotal fight for the welterweight division,” Ellenberger said. “It can set the tone for the division going into the end of the year. It’s a huge fight and there is no bigger place than on Fox. Then you factor in that I don’t like him, and that should make it fun to watch. I just don’t like him and it’s something I’m definitely looking forward to.
“I love how much the media has pushed him, and that makes it better for me. They like to embellish this young kid. Rather than base things on his accomplishments, it’s more about his potential. I really don’t know why, to be honest with you. Rory is as fake as the food he is named after…there is a restaurant in Lincoln, Nebraska named Rory’s.
“This is how this fight is going to go,” Ellenberger offered in conclusion. “Buffer screams. Rory runs. Jake swings. Rory sleeps. Crowd screams.”
So now that Ellenberger has given his best Ali impression with his predictions heading into his fight with Macdonald, do you think his comments are valid? And do you think a win over Rory places him at the front of the contention line for a title shot? Let’s hear some predictions of your own, Penn Nation! Sound off!
