Jacare vs. Brunson / Sayers vs. Smith Added To “Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey”

The Strikeforce Columbus event has just added two more bouts to the ever growing roster. This time its middleweight bouts between Jacare Souza and Derek Brunson and another one set to pair Lumumba Sayers opposite Scott Smith.

Strikeforce officials confirmed the matchups this morning.

The March 3rd event is set to go down from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio and with a bantamweight title fight between challenger Ronda Rousey and champion Miesha Tate in the headlining slot.

Jacare is a world renowned submission grappler who at one point held the Strikeforce middleweight title. He last saw action losing his strap to new champ, Luke Rockhold this past September.

His opponent is nine-fight MMA veteran Brunson. Brunson remains undefeated going into the bout and his string of victories includes three Strikeforce wins. A division II All-American wrestler he has beaten the likes of Nate James, Jeremy Hamilton and Sayers to keep his unbeaten record intact.

In other middleweight action, the always tough UFC veteran, Scott Smith will make his return to action against Sayers this March. Smith has decided to return to the middleweight division after a short two-fight stint at welterweight saw him lose two straight bouts. He is now 1-3 in his last four outings as a Mixed Martial Artist.

Sayers will look to give Smith his fourth straight loss and build off the momentum of his November win against Antwain Britt. To date none of his fights have gone out of the first frame of action. However, Smith, if he comes into the fight like the fighter of old, will be a big step up in competition.

The fight card breaks down as follows:
Champ Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey (for female bantamweight title)
Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi
Paul Daley vs. Kazuo Misaki
K.J. Noons vs. Josh Thomson
Alexis Davis vs. Sarah Kaufman
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Derek Brunson
Lumumba Sayers vs. Scott Smith
Caros Fodor vs. Pat Healy
Conor Heun vs. Ryan Couture
