Jacare Souza Wants Winner of Munoz vs. Bisping or Fight at Light Heavyweight

As he continues to climb the UFC ranks at middleweight, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza has called for a top contender in the winner of the upcoming bout between Mark Munoz and Michael Bisping.  If he can’t get this fight, however, Jacare is willing to fight at 205 lbs.

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, has his eye on another middleweight belt: the UFC middleweight belt.  In less than half a year, he has managed to fight his way to the UFC’s third-ranked contender at 185 lbs.  And now, the Brazilian fighter has set his sights on his next challenge, winner of the UFC Fight Night 30 main event between Mark Munoz and Michael Bisping.

Jacare’s run in the UFC has been brief, but he defeated both Chris Camozzi and Yushin Okami in the first round.  In fact, since losing his Strikeforce belt to Luke Rockhold in 2011, Jacare has not fought to a decision, beating all five of his opponents either by submission or KO.

Jacare is looking to keep his momentum going, and his manager, Gilberto Faria, told “UFC Tonight” that he would like his next challenge to be the winner of Bisping vs. Munoz.  Those two will fight next month on the UFC Fight Night 30 card in Manchester, England.  Faria said if Jacare doesn’t fight either of those two, he will opt to move up in weight to 205 lbs.

Jacare’s last fight was just over a week ago, so it may be some time before another fight is lined up for him.  The UFC has not announced an opponent or their intention for Souza, however the middleweight division has been put on hold since Chris Weidman upset former champion Anderson Silva in July.  Silva has an immediate rematch with Weidman at the end of this year, after which Vitor Belfort is all but demanding he get a shot at the belt.  A fight between Jacare and the winner of Bisping-Munoz, presumably the third and fourth ranked contenders, would be quite appealing.  Of course, all of this will have to wait, at the very least, for UFC Fight Night on October 26.
