Is Dos Santos The Heavyweight Version Of A Prime Chuck Liddell? Dana White Thinks So

“For me, the question is how is Dos Santos going to deal with the kicks and the knees and the elbows [of Alistair Overeem]? Since he’s been in the UFC, I’ve never seen him have to deal with that. It’s stuff that he’s going to have to deal with from Alistair Overeem… He’s fought a pretty one-dimensional fight, he’s fought very Chuck Liddell like in that he’s great at defending the takedown, he drops bombs, he throws heavy punches, but he’s never dealt with anybody who’s going to throw kicks and knees and work in the clinch the way that Alistair Overeem does. I’m real curious to see how Junior Dos Santos is planning on dealing with that.”
UFC president Dana White talked to the media during Tuesday’s media scrum about many topics. One of which were the similarities between the fighting style of Junior dos Santos and a prime Chuck Liddell.
Dubbed “Sprawl and Brawl”, JDS has so far in his career been able to dish out heavy strikes and take out most of his opponents with punches and defensive wrestling. But will he continue this streak and garner a reputation as Liddell did while keeping his title?
Thoughts?

I noticed when JDS fought Velazquez he didn’t do a great job at checking legkicks. His facial expression showed he didn’t like those legkicks at all.
Now imagine instead of a wrestler throwing untidy legkicks, a Dutch 260 lbs. K-1 champion like Overeem throwing those bombs to the legs. If JDS hasn’t worked on that he will have a big problem…
I might be wrong but I dont recall Overeem using that much of kicks… yeah he got the clinch with the knees but its not like hes a Jose Aldo or Shogun Rua kinda kicker… Actually he has skinny legs for his size
Jose Aldo’s legkicks are insane I agree fully. Overeem’s legkicks might not be on the same level as Aldo’s..
But Overeem does have a solid legkick. He took out Brock Lesnar with a kick to the liver.
It was actually a knee to the liver
No a kick with his left foot diggin deep into the liver was what made Lesnar collapse. watch it again….
a knee to his midsection that had like a half mile of intestine removed. overeem will get DESTROYED.
That kick was the beginning of the end. Lesnar collapses after that kick and then Overeem pounds him out.
So although he did throw a few knees, the kn ees weren’t the fight ending move.
I thought he put Brock down with his legs.
JDS had to worry about Cain shooting in on him if he lifted his leg to check the kick. He doesn’t have that concern with Overeem
You can’t throw a legkick and shoot at the same time, so that has absolutely nothing to do with checking legkicks.
Maybe that’s because he fought with a torn meniscus.
Overeem hates being hit. He’s like a big tito ortiz. Once he gets hit he is scared to go toe to toe. JDS will KO him

There was an issue with the page of the original article and I tried to post it 3 times. The first time I posted it I lost the comment completely and had to rewrite it….
You are right that the brothers Grim are dead. I don’t consider it stealing if there is no one left to pay (that includes the family) and they give them credit for their hard work. They also use Shakespeare and Mythology. Who should they pay for the rights to use Hercules? It’s all free because no one owns it. Lion King is modification of the story of Hamlet a Shakespeare play. I could be wrong about Shaespeare being un-owned…
As far as Steamboat Willie and Steamboat Bill Jr, they only share similar titles. Their plots are completely different. I also don’t consider a parody a copy of ideas either, otherwise the comedy business would be out of business.
“Disney’s cartoon Steamboat Willie…Steamboat Willie is a direct cartoon parody of Steamboat Bill, and both are built upon a common song as a source.” (22–23)”

They aren’t innocent but that’s the reason you have these laws so that when they steal your great book or story idea they can be gone after.
LOL check this out I bet you will laugh you ass off.

I’m sure there is some Grimm and/or Shakespeare family left. But back then they didn’t even know about copyrights and intellectual property, so Disney could steal it without any legal obligations. It’s still money made with other peoples ideas, legal or not.
Disney and all other movie companies are just huge, corrupt, powerfull pots calling us little kettles black.
And the Kimba-Simba thing..Hahaha wow! a greater shameless rip-off doesn’t exist!
I seem to remember Chuck Lidell Knocking out Overeem In Pride. I think Cain was JDS biggest threat and he walked through him. Im giving this one to JDS.
Yes Liddell did KO Overeem, but that was at 205. Overeem now is a different fighter in much better shape.
Weight class doesn’t change a fighter’s chin.
True but Overeem came in at 205 lbs and was weak from the weight cut.
He came in dehydrated, as you know he brain ‘floats’ in fluid. If a fighter cuts weight and gets dehydrated his brain will be floating in less fluid and thus be more susceptible for hard blows to the head, which leads to an earlier KO.
What’s exactly wrong with his chin? Would you say Tito or classic Randy had weak chins? Because Liddell had enough power to finish them. And don’t even say Shogun knocking somebody out means they can’t take a shot. JDS isn’t invincible. Overeem is the one to take him out. JDS hasn’t fought a great striker yet.
JDS hasn’t fought a good striker? lol…Not to mention Chuck isnt the only one to knock out Reem, And yes i would say Randy Couture has a weak chin…The difference between comparing K.O. losses of Reem and Tito is, Tito doesn’t have a pile of K.O losses….That isn’t saying Reem doesn’t have a chance, He’s alot stronger then he was at 205, But he’s chin is still suspect.
@Country,
Overeem has 6 (T)KO losses in 47 fights, Tito has 4 in just 26 fights.
People hear Rutten or some other dude say Overeem has a suspect chin and start repeating that.
When you look at the facts his chin isn’t more suspect as Tito’s or anyone elses.
There is also no shame in being ko’d by the likes of Chuck, Shogun, Badr Hari, or anyone on that level. Most of his losses were also way earlier in his career when he was nowhere near a complete fighter like he is now.
Youre comparing Tito’s K.O. losses to Reem’s K.O. losses….Look at the level of competition between the two…Nog, Rashad, Chuck x2 and a Frank Shamrock…not one of those guy’s arent a legend in the sport and will be in the hall of fame…Compared to a Sergei Kharitonov, Ricardo Arona, Bobby Huffman ect ect ect.
You’re proving my point…They absically lost to the same fighters. You’re mentioning Nog and Chuck which are both fighters Overeem also lost to….And ok not Rashad, but then again Overeem faced Shogun.
So my comparing still stands.
it does.
JDS shouldn’t be worry overeem’s kicks. Overeem has punching power as well but not as heavy as JDS. JDS should be worry about Overeem clinch that might lead to knee. Overeem does that a lot
If I remember correctly, Chuck Liddell knocked out Overeem in PRIDE. Dos Santos has a LOT more power than liddell does so I think he’ll be able to knock Overeem out
That’s an easy prediction cause JDS can KO anyone.
But I think if Overeem can play his game he does have a good chance to win this fight.
Overeem has to not make any mistakes in the beginning because JDS is always looking for the instant KO especially early in a bout. He’s pretty ferocious with his explosiveness.
This is a hard one to call. Either one of those guys has more than enough to take out the other. I would lean towards Overeem though since he has a greater variety of strikes and can be effective at a distance. His clinch is also scary.
I find it funny the fight before jds fought for the title dana said that jds is sub par in his boxing and has a long way to go to beat velaquez.. Then he wins the title, hasnt fought since and now dana says this… I like jds and think hes a great fighter but it just goes to show how much dana bullshits
Dana likes whoever makes him the most money. Remember before Overeem joined UFC and Dana said anyone who thought he was a top 10 guy was crazy or stupid or whatever?
he is just saying that cuz he will ko overroid like chuck did
So who is going to be the “Rampage” to knock JDS off the throne is the question.
Fear the Reem!
I give it to JDS unless this fight goes into the third round.
Pedro something funky is happening. None of my comments are posting.
because you are posting links and links get flagged – the web is full of bots that spam us so we had to take that step to keep the site clean.. I just approved your comments tho – should be fine.
Thanks
This is just Bull SH$T!!!! JDS has NOT even defended the belt yet, Chuck Lidell my @$$! So much hype it is a joke, if Reem smashes JDS (which I think he will do) then what will Dana White say?? Reem will be the next Anderson Silva??? Not trying to say JDS isn’t legit, but come the F@CK on at least let him defend the belt, look at Cain and his hype train! At least Brock defended it! Then lets look at Jones, he has also defended his and so has a few others, once Henderson beat Edgar White said the same crap, what if Edgar wins this time? Let them defend it at least once before the hype comes rolling in FFS
I like both these guys. My concern is about the heavyweight title and the division. If this belt keeps getting passed around and if they keep screening Overeem nonstop if he wins the belt how does the division look?
Is this fortyb4five? I have no idea what I did if I’m being banned.
LOL my comment still didn’t make it through. Maybe it’s too long. I post it and it say no duplicates but it never showed up in the first place. LOL It actually had pertinent information instead of speculation crap and trolling.
