Holdsworth vs. Kang set for UFC 173

Heading into his first UFC bout after winning “The Ultimate Fighter” Rousey vs. Tate, Chris Holdsworth is scheduled to face off against Kyung Ho Kang at UFC 173 in a bantamweight match up. UFC officials announced the fight this Thursday.

UFC 173′s main card is the highly anticipated bout for the UFC middleweight crown when current champion Chris Weidman looks to defend his title against Vitor Belfort. Scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, UFC 173 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 24 and will air live on pay-per-view with the preliminary card airing on FOX Sports 1 as well as UFC Fight Pass.

Holdsworth is a submission machine with all of his professional victories, as well as his victories on Season 18 of TUF, coming by way of submission. His most recent victory was over Davey Grant for the season finale in which Holdsworth was able to stop Grant via rear naked choke in the second round. Holdsworth is now sitting at a 5-0 record (1-0 UFC) in his professional career with the support of the guys at Team Alpha Male behind him.

Holdsworth will face off against the South Korean Kyung Ho Kang who scored his first “W” in the UFC after finishing Shunichi Shimizu with an arm triangle in the third round of their bout. Kang hasn’t been so successful in his other outings as he’s fallen victim to a decision loss to Chico Camus at UFC 164, and a split decision loss to Alex Caceres back in March of ’13. That loss, not long after, was switched to a no contest after Caceres popped positive for pot in his post fight drug test.

This will surely be an entertaining bout as the two combatants are both up and coming in the organization. It will be interesting to see if Kang can survive and put another notch in the win column. Or will Holdsworth be able to continue his momentum and finish Kang like he’s done to everyone else.
