Hendricks Ready To Sit Idle And Wait For His Title Shot | UFC NEWS

“I think I’ve earned the shot. I’ve fought all the tough guys in the division. The only thing left is to fight GSP. I think I have the tools. I haven’t shown all my tools cause I haven’t had to. But I believe I have all the tools to win that fight.”

Following his first round knockout of Martin Kampmann this past weekend at UFC 154, Johny Hendricks told the media at the post-fight press conference that he wants to wait for his earned title shot.

Rattling off victories over the likes of Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and Martin Kampmann surely build a strong case for Hendricks and his rights to try and earn UFC gold but will the UFC see it his way?

  1. Woozieman says:

Make him fight Diaz next. It makes sense to me. Diaz knows how to implement his game well on most fighter and Johnny says he has all the tools so put him in there with Diaz and let the outcome of that fight determine who the number one contender is.

    • lionstrangler says:

yes, make the number one contender fight the dude who lost the number one contender spot to Condit. moronic. he, like Condit did, is well within his rights to sit till he fights for the championship. the chance comes once in a lifetime and one slip up means he might never get the chance again

      • TheTude says:

+1, Hendricks should be fighting for the title in may, instead they are giving GSP to Silva. This is just one of many reasons superfights are bad for the sport. Lets keep the fights in the weight classes. other wise whats the reason for weight classes. If GSP wants to step up to 185 and challenge Silva for the title that one im all for seeing that. It would awesome, bur catchweight between two champions who already have contenders is just bullshit

  2. Nando says:

How about he fights who the ufc tells him to fight? I’m tired of guys sitting out for a year to fight for the title. I’m no GSP fan but I rooted for him to kick Condit’s ass for holding up the division. Interim belts are meant to keep the division moving while the champ is out. Likewise, if Hendricks is the rightful #1 contender, he should be able to fend off all challengers. I like this guy too….

  3. Jujitsu Player says:

Hendricks has the same tools as Koscheck and GSP dominated him…twice. I think he deserves a shot, maybe after the Silva fight makes the most sense though.

    • jim says:

i’d hardly say dominated. the first fight was fairly close and in the 2nd fight, josh had his orbital bone broken within the first minute of the first round. not too hard to beat a one-eyed man. hendricks would have finished him.
so while there’s a chance that gsp could grind out another decision, i think there’s also a pretty good chance hendricks knocks him out.

  4. ballsackface says:

why doesnt he fight condit am i missing something here?

    • Ash G says:

Because Condit Lost and Hendricks won, the UFC don’t match up a winner with a loser. Also why should Condit get an immediate number 1 contender fight, he had his shot.
