Hendricks-Condit winner gets next title shot | UFC NEWS
For more than a year now Johny Hendricks (14-1) has campaigned, pleaded, and fought to be put in the ring with Georges St. Pierre to fight for the UFC Welterweight title. If he beats Carlos Condit (28-6) on March 16th he will finally get his wish.
During the UFC 158 press conference White was asked if Hendricks wins will he get the next shot at the title:
“Yeah. I actually really like this fight with Carlos Condit. The guy who comes out of this fight, the winner is definitely the number 1 contender.”
UFC President Dana White passed over Hendricks and gave the title shot to Nick Diaz because that’s what Georges St. Pierre wanted. Many fans, fighters, and pundits believed this was wrong, and Hendricks deserved the fight. He’s not mad at Diaz though as Hendricks explains:
“He (Diaz) did what he had to do to get the fight. If I overlook Carlos Condit he’s gonna beat my ass.”
Hendricks was originally scheduled to fight Jake Ellenberger, but after an injury forced Rory MacDonald to withdraw he decided to take the fight with Condit. With White announcing that the winner is the number 1 contender makes this fight even more important now for Condit.
Taking this fight is a risky choice for Hendricks. No one would have questioned if he would have sat on the sideline, and waited for the winner of GSP-Diaz. That’s not Hendricks style though, he’s a fighter. Fighters fight, that’s just what they do.

ABSOLUTELY!! This is a must make fight for sure. This will tells us if Maia has what it takes to be champion at WW and whether Rory is ready to take over once GSP takes over MW. Alot of good action in WW in the next year or so.
Don’t matter if u win or lose against Condit, which I believe u will lose anyhow,After Georges wrecks that lowlife Diaz, he’s gonna give you your chance at a beating win lose or draw against Condit,and he will prove once again his superiority in the WW div.
Man, I agree with your passion about this and GSP is definitely the king and P4P best, but Hendricks poses problems for GSP that others have not. Unless GSP can out wrestle Hendricks, I believe this will be tough for him. We haven’t really seen Hendricks ground game much, but I have been at his meets and he is a fukcin beast. I actually think he closes that distance a bit quicker than GSP and has that left ready to go. GSP is fast and can move in and out incredibly fast. but I’m not sure he will wreck Hendricks. Johnny needs to get by Condit first though. If Hendricks can handle Condit like GSP did then, I will believe Hendricks might have a chance. We’ll see.
