Quick Twitt | Dan Henderson Open To Take Fight Against JDS At UFC 146

MMA legend, Dan Henderson has now thrown his name in the hat as a possible replacement for Alistair Overeem at UFC 146.

The former Middleweight and light-heavyweight champion is no stranger to tough opposition in the heavyweight division as most recently he took out longtime division king Fedor Emelianenko in his final bout with Strikeforce.

He will give up a huge size advantage to the champion, but Hendo’s famous H-Bomb has no limits.

Our poll this week shows Hendo as the early favorite for the slot if Overeem is removed, but is this a logical choice?

Speak on it Penn Nation.

I love this fight over any replacement

  2. DewYouKnow8 says:

    HAHA why not.

  3. #DjGonzSwagg says:

I Honestly think Hendo Would Win This By Decision Just Based On His Legendary Wrestling Skills Plus He Also Gots Knock Out Power but If JDS Connects 1 Time Solid It would Be Lights Out For Hendo!!! Follow me @AllStardjgonz

  4. andy says:

Hell, while he’s at it, he might as well campaign to fight Condit while GSP is out. Lack of competition at Featherweight? Don’t worry, Hendo has it covered. Or maybe even have him and Anthony Pettis fight to see who gets Bendo after he smashes Edgar again er… I mean whoever wins the Bendo/Edgar fight 😉

    • ThaGreenBandit says:

Right. It’s like, any talk of a title fight, at any weight class, and Hendo quickly becomes a front runner candidate. I love the guy, and he’s a legend and all that, but damn!

      • andy says:

Seriously. Great guy and a phenomenal fighter but I think he needs to just sit back, don’t take any fights and just wait for Jones/Evans to play out.

    • Ly-er says:

Don’t get me wrong, the Henderson vs. Shogun fight was one of the best bouts I’ve seen in a long time. Yet how does winning that one fight coming back into the UFC validate u to have 3 possible title shots in 3 different weight classes? IMO, I think he should just be next to fight the winner of Jones vs. Rashad!

  5. A.James says:

Fuck it. Why not? He beat Fedor and Shogun.

  6. A.James says:

This could sell possibly more than JDS vs. Overeem.

  7. DewYouKnow8 says:

JDS wins this, just so we are clear… fun fight though

  8. Ricky says:

This guy is definitely a giant! Hendo!

  9. Eric El Bestia says:

    very late news

  10. Dick Diaz says:

Dan Henderson’s been saying he’ll fight a lot of people lately. damn it dan, get a fight official already!

  11. Jujitsu Player says:

It would see a lot of tickets but it makes no sense whatsoever. Hendo is a legend and tough guy so what do you expect him to say when someone asks him if he’d take the fight……but in terms of a contest it’s a ludicrous suggestion and match up. JDS would destroy him; end of. Mir or Cain or Werdum would be sensible match ups.

  12. thetude says:

im thinking mark hunt man, this guy is kind of out of left feild but it would be a slug fest

  13. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

JDS vs Hendo is the David and Goliath of 2012. I think Goliath wins this time…

Why not though? He can save the whole card.

  14. sean says:

im a huge hendo fan ! but i dont see how he wins this fight ! jds is bigger way bigger ! has mad power in both hands ! he is a killer and a beast like hendo ! but hendo just isnt a hw ! i see this as a bad idea for hendo

  15. JBisDUMB says:

Wow, if you let Hendo in to fight JDS he is gonna get retired. He’s over 40 and JDS is 28, around 40 pounds heavier, and just a sick striker in an MMA context, with a great reach advantage. This ain’t no rusty Fedor right here, this is Cigano. You can’t be a Hendo fan and want to see this happen.

  16. Steve says:

    What a warrior.

  17. pthance says:

So much better than Mark Hunt. WHY MARK HUNT???? This Guy lost five in a row before entering the UFC, lost his first UFC fight, sucked his next two then beat Kongo…. why is this tin can nobody even being considered? At least Henson could save the card and stands a decent chance of not looking like a freebie for JDS.

  18. JackPliskin says:

Mark Hunt would be a better match up here

  19. Brend0magic says:

Would LOVE to see this fight. But yea I agree with whoever said that if JDS connected good 1 time it’d be good night Hendo. But I honestly think Hendo could win, he’s got amazing MMA wrestling, def better than JDS’. If he closed the distance quick, and took him down and pounded him he could win, or possibly by KO with the legendary h-bomb. Would just hate it if he was able to take him down at will and layed-n-prayed the whole fight, but Hendo doesn’t do that much.

  20. James Troy says:

dan henderson: greatest fighter of all time. disagree and be wrong if you want.

  21. Chris says:

This should be the top choice. Would be very fun to watch. But if Dan won? Heavyweight Champion? Funny poop.

  22. William H. Bonney says:

Y’all r all dumbasses!! Jds has a better chance knocking out a cow!! Who cares how good a striker he is!! U can’t hurt Hendo. Jds gets tired and hendo knocks him out in the third

  23. Tyler says:

Omg, seriously? Henderson wouldn’t last 30 seconds with dos santos.
Trt is f-ing with his brain. Dude needs to back off the injections for a bit…come back down to earth.

  24. Willie monaghan says:

I think this would be a bad move for hendo. He should wait and fight the winner of Jon Jones vs Evans.

  25. Chuck says:

To those of you saying Hendo doesnt stand a chance against JDS…you are DUMB! Hendo can beat anybody, and on fight night he wouldnt be giving up much weight. Jds is only 245, itd be about 20lbs. Now im not saying that Hendo would beat dos santos but he definitely has the skills and heart to put up a great fight. If JDS KOs hendo quickly then it is what it is, he KOs almost everybody. Either way its a great fight.

P.S. Its obvious that most of you are either A) New to mma or B)Stupid

    • Hmm.. says:

He would be giving up more weight than 20 pounds bro. Hendo isnt cutting to get to 205.. he only weighed like 208 vs Fedor, and his belly was probably stuffed full of water and Strikeforce contenders. But I dont disagree with you.

  26. Billy says:

They should just get Jon Jones fight. He said he wants a heavyweight fight. Knowing his bullshit talk he will KO Rashad in the first and be ready to fight by 146 and KO JDS in the first also.

Don’t quote me on this I don’t know how to be an arrogent asshole with the ego the size of Overeem

  27. ma mama said mma says:

  28. Seedy says:

Heado is the fucken man… This fight would be crazy…. Fuck overeem… Cheating JUNKY….

  29. Jason N says:

JDS will beat his ass bad. I am a hendo fan too

  30. A.James says:

It would sell tickets and PPVs. It’s a REALLY smart move on Dana’s part and totally marketable. There’d be ridiculous hype around that fight.

  31. Marc says:

JDS have an awesome takedown defense, and he is too big to hendo take him down. In the stand up matchup, jds have the size advantage, technique, speed, accuracy. Both have a lot of power, but hendo have two things that jds have not proved yet, the chin and the heart. So what i think would happen is hendo trying to take jds down, and get teared down by jds’s jabs and long distance shots. So at some point hendo would get bothered too much by jds’s punches and go for the kill, trying to close the distance and land a h-bomb. So jds will evade hendo’s bombs and land one of his own and finish the match. I really think that jds would win, but hendo have some chance too.

  32. MJ says:

The only drawback is this is short notice for Hendo and his cardio is what made it close in the Shogun fight… But honestly I can’t think of another person I’d rather see fight JDS right now that’s available. It’s a win/win for Hendo and the fans. It might actually be to his advantage to not have to cut any weight, now that he is older. And who else deserves it at all? Not that Hendo really does, but I think Cain doesn’t deserve it right now, and Mir is the only other option, but I think the Mir/Cain fight needs to happen for the card to have any meaning.

  33. ribz says:

it would be fun to watch would sell tickets but jds is to big to strong and to skilled for hedo unless he landed a huge right a few times quick jds would end it quick

  34. John C says:

isnt Fedor looking for a fight?????

If there was ever a time, its now. he doesnt really have much “leverage” when it comes to negotiating this time around. And dont tell me that hendo or Hunt is better matchup than a Fedor super-match.
