Hector Lombard Considering Weight Cut to Welterweight
Hector Lombard is looking for a fresh start in a new weight class. Lombard (32-4) had a successful run in middleweight class outside the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but the “Lightning” holds a 1-2 record in the organization. After he goes under the knife for a nose surgery, Lombard is considering dropping to welterweight. Lombard broke his nose when he fought Yushin Okami via split decision last month at UFC on Fuel TV 8 – Silva vs. Stann.
Ariel Helwani reported yesterday on “UFC Tonight” on Fuel TV that Lombard is considering the move.
“He walks around at 205 and he feels that at his height, it’s not really at his best interest to be fighting at 185,” Helwani said on “UFC Tonight.” “He knows the UFC wants him to go down.”
Lombard paired up with dieting consultant Mike Dolce to do a test weight cut to 170. The stocky built fighter had to strip behind a towel to make weight last month when he fought Okami. Even though he doesn’t think it’s possible to cut the weight, he is going to give it a shot.
