Hector Lombard Considering Weight Cut to Welterweight

Hector Lombard is looking for a fresh start in a new weight class. Lombard (32-4) had a successful run in middleweight class outside the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but the “Lightning” holds a 1-2 record in the organization. After he goes under the knife for a nose surgery, Lombard is considering dropping to welterweight. Lombard broke his nose when he fought Yushin Okami via split decision last month at UFC on Fuel TV 8 – Silva vs. Stann.

Ariel Helwani reported yesterday on “UFC Tonight” on Fuel TV that Lombard is considering the move.

“He walks around at 205 and he feels that at his height, it’s not really at his best interest to be fighting at 185,” Helwani said on “UFC Tonight.” “He knows the UFC wants him to go down.”

Lombard paired up with dieting consultant Mike Dolce to do a test weight cut to 170. The stocky built fighter had to strip behind a towel to make weight last month when he fought Okami. Even though he doesn’t think it’s possible to cut the weight, he is going to give it a shot.

If Anthony Johnson could make it for as long as he could, he should be able to do it.

This feels like Franky Edgar’s whole situation except there’s not near as many exceptional guys at 85 to make me believe this is the rite thing to do. It seems to me Lombard has been very competitive at 85. He has a controversial loss that I think he won,he nuked Palheras and lost to Okami in a split decision and there’s no shame in all of that. At 70 there’s a stack of dudes that are all a threat and I don’t know if I believe that’s the rite move for a guy that’s had issues pulling the trigger in the UFC. If he hesitates at 70 with some of these guys he’s gonna pay dearly but also I consider Damian has had good success so far making the drop but also applies a completely different pressure.

His UFC record looks kinda shitty but I think he got fucked over by judges twice. Boetsch didn’t win and Okami didn’t win either. Those two fights were not great fights, but he didn’t lose them.

You’re crazy dude. Either that or you are extremely biased. He got manhandled and beat the fukc up by Boetsch and Okami. On defense the whole time. I guess in your world if you are good at defense, you win!!! smh.
