Hash Tag Rally For Mark Hunt | Why You Should Join The Cause
Trending alert! #RallyforMarkHunt
Following last weeks ‘shocking’ or ‘not so shocking’ news that #1 contender Alistair Overeem had indeed failed a random drug test for his bout against current Heavyweight Champ Junior Dos Santos @ UFC 146; the MMA community has been busy debating possible replacements for the Championship bout. Frank Mir (Currently on a 3 fight win streak), seemed to be the number 1 consensus amongst fans, however, a large outcry of support for former K1 Champ Mark Hunt (Also on a 3 fight win streak) seems to have given Hunt the momentum.
The 2001 K1 World Grand Prix Winner, Hunt is now 38 years old and is massing one of the better comeback stories of this decade. The ‘Super Samoan’ joined the UFC in September of 2010 sporting a less than stellar 5 wins with 6 losses record in MMA. His opponent was Sean McCorkle, who made quick work of Hunt at UFC 119 submitting him early in the 1st round via armbar. Many people (including myself) wrote Hunt off after the loss and expected the UFC to cut him once his contract was fore filled.
His next bout was against Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127 in Australia and Hunt used it to prove that the ‘Super Samoan’ was still one of the best strikers in the game! He landed a devastating 1 punch knockout to the chin of Tuchscherer and simply walked off. He followed that up with a decision win over Ben Rothwell at UFC 135, a fight in which Hunt showed a much improved ground game. Then came Hunts latest effort at UFC 144, where he made quick work of Cheick Kongo, disposing of Kongo via strikes in round 1.
Hunt is tentatively scheduled to fight Stephan Struve at UFC 146, but that hasn’t stopped the hash tag #RallyforMarkHunt from becoming a social media frenzy! The hash tag went so far as to trend worldwide on twitter at one point. The #RallyforMarkHunt hash tag was created with one sole purpose… To get the attention of Dana White and the UFC in order to prove the fans desire to see him fill the ‘possibly’ vacant title challenger spot at UFC 146. Mark Hunt recently opened a twitter account @markhunt1974, and has obtained over 8000 followers in less than a week.
I personally would love to see Mark Hunt get a shot at JDS. It would be a stand up war and Hunt has one hell of a chin. Plus, it would make for one of the greater comeback stories in recent sports memory. Many celebrities (Including Joe Rogan) and MMA fighters have endorsed the campaign for Hunt, retweeting posts and voicing their opinions online. Some of the notable retweets I received were as follows:

What are your thoughts Penn nation? Is this a fight you want to see or a Cinderella story that should remain just that?
