Guillard Explains Decision To Train With Rashad Evans Over Team Jackson For Lauzon

“I know a lot of people look at it like, ‘How are you at Jackson’s and you train with Rashad?’ Well, Rashad’s been like a brother to me since Season 2. Jon … he’s my boy, he’s my teammate. I stay out of their beef, and I keep myself neutral to everything. For everybody that don’t know, that’s what it is. I still love Rashad like a brother, and I love Jon like a teammate. There are gonna be other times when I’m gonna go to Imperial, and I’m probably gonna train there again … Until it presents a problem as far as my coaching goes, then I’ll deal with it when it comes. I’m my own boss; my coaches work for me, so it’s whatever I choose that I want to do to be successful in this game. I’m going to take those options.”
The fast rising Melvin Guillard tells the folks over at sherdog.com that he has no remorse for switching up his training camp to Rashad Evans “Blackzilians” over his typical home over at Greg Jacksons MMA.
The two camps are obviously at opposite ends of the “Friends Spectrum” so is Guillard decision a wise one or is there room for one-fighter to train at two separate rivaling gyms?

that will suck if he loses…. and there goes his contendership
i hear u…i dont like this fight for J-Lau…i see the Duhnam fight all over again! Go Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He know’s rashad is on that beastly shit right now I would’ve done the same. Plus it’s a good move anyways because he is going to end up having to fight most of his teammates if he does win and become champ one day.
Except he wont lose?
He’s Melvin Guillard, most feared striker in the LW division.
If Lauzon finds a way to grab onto one of those arms or a triangle without Melvin slamming his ass or knocking him out the world will end. no way i see Lauzon winning unless Melvin has a worlds biggest brain fart.
If Nate Diaz can submit Melvin J-Lau sure can.
Nate Diaz has better jiu jitsu and striking than Lauzon, not a good comparison. LOL
Nah I think J-Lau has comparable ground skills…with Nate being slightly better…but the point is I was saying Diaz is not strong at all and he’s lanky…kinda the same frame as Lauzon.
Not strong at all?? More like very strong at 155, lanky or not. Technique creates power.. Let’s not forget the fighting spirit..
You can’t be “Not strong at all” and beat the people nate has..
I think Nate, Melvin and Joe are all top of the food chain at 155 among others, and now with Gilbert coming over… its a great division.
Melvin has evolved since the Jackson camp, but Lauzon should pull this one off or he’ll get KTFO.
Lauzon’s a beast but I think Guillard is gonna get the first round TKO.
J Lau is in trouble. As long as Melvin doesnt get stupid like he did with Diaz then he will win this fight easily!!
A fight is a fight anybody can win but I’m leaning towards Guillard for the W
I got Guillard pulling out the win, but if he gets caught on the ground, Lauzon will eat that ass up
The question was about training not who’s going to win? I feel Melvins comments about the coaches work for him is 100% correct. In the MMA world training is more mental prep than physical and if he feels more confident having worked with Rashad then good for him.
yea i mean im not betting against melvin… lol i think he can KO anyone in the ltwt div.
I’m just sayin, Jackson usually helps with an awesome game plan, but J-lo is a beast…
p.s. the pic makes it look like Arianny hates melvin lol
he probably hit it and quit it before his wife found out. Now she mad
…if you’re talking about the ring girl on the left looking skyward, das not Arianny. Das Logan, who was fired by the UFC a couple years back. Arianny is on the right (Guillard’s left), whose face is unseen in the photo.
…Guillard because he’s just brutally stronger than Lauzon, and I’ve liked J Lau for the longest time. Guillard is a beast.
guillards stand up is far better than j lau and alot of people in lightweight division. if guillard works on his ground defense he could easily be champ and dominate
Must be crowded at Greg Jackson’s camp. GSP and Condit have to be in an extremely vexing place right now.
GSP rarely if ever trains in New mexico anymore. 99% time GSP is either at tristar or in New York training at Renzo Gracies. A week before the fight Greg Jackson flys out to Canada to discuss gameplan and then he corners GSP at his fights. Condit said he has never trained with GSP at jacksons ever. Thats why diego came back cause he found out GSP doesn’t really train there.
Bj’s standup is best in lw division.
yea too bad he fights ww now.
This will be a good test to see how much Guillard has improved over the last two years.
He’s got the speed of Frankie with BJ’s power…and on top of that his wrestling is top notch.
If his cardio is good and his submission defense is there, there’s no way he loses this fight.
Guillard by KO. 1st Round.
Bc they’re bruthers!
