Guida Wants Next Crack At Edgar With UFC on FOX Win Over Henderson
“Ben is obviously a gamer, he always comes to fight and fight hard. From what I know, he is a real good dude and respectful, so add that to an intense work ethic and that’s a great recipe for success. … To me, a big win earns a title shot. I want to win big so that there is no question about my title shot. Everyone hyped Melvin Guillard as the obvious next shot, but then he lost in the first-round to Joe (Lauzon). So, I figure with a big win, then it’s my turn for that title shot.”
In an interview with lowkick.com, “The Carpenter” Clay Guida, talks about the UFC’s lightweight title picture and where he sees himself in it.
For near a year the division has been stuck on standby waiting for the conclusion of the Edgar vs. Maynard trilogy. The man who was supposed to be next in line, Mr. Anthony Pettis, couldn’t want and got taken out by Guida and now with no clear number one contender, Guida thinks a win over Henderson earns him that spot.
A win over Henderson is no easy task, not if it’s the same Henderson that completely embarrassed Jim Miller this past August. Anyone think Guida has it in him to derail “Bendo” or is Edgar vs. Henderson all but a lock for the title?

I honestly think Guida or Henderson can take out Edgar, Edgar runs around alot and has no power behind the punches he trows, guida does hop around alot lol but he has power and he HAS cardio thats the thing thats allowed edgar to go this far and in my opinion Henderson is WAY better in all aspects than Edgar..Just waiting for that boring b*tch to go out either guy will be LW champ, just give them a shot!!!

You must’ve never seen either of these guys fight, if that’s what you choose to do. Aside from Guida’s last match, where he used a ***** blanket style of fighting to pull off the victory, he’s generally a pretty entertaining fighter. Not the best, nor the best technique, but entertaining even so. Bendo is never a bore, so I’m not sure what point you’re trying to prove with that statement because this looks to be a pretty good scrap, with Bendo coming out the winner
Smh.. when did guida use a “***** blanket style of fighting”. every time he got Pettis down he couldnt get any gnp or pass really cause pettis was so active looking for submissions.
im gonna have to say, i hope guida doesnt win because he is one of the least entertaining fighters to watch ive ever seen. henderson vs edgar would b much more entertaining. when i see guida i literallychange the channel. he just lays on the guy for 15 minutes, i dont wanna see him a title shot where he lays on the guy for 25. henderson has a good wrestling pedigree, and i hope its enough to nullify guida and give him the l, so in the future he can just fade into monotony so i dont have to change the channel during his fights anymore…. but thats just me

Your an IDIOT!!! How would Bendo not deserve a shot with a W over Guida? He was the WEC Champ until he lost to Pettis in a fight that could’ve went either way up until the showtime kick (prior to that he won like 10 in a row). Since then he’s beaten Bocek and Destroyed Jim Miller who was considered a top contender. Melvin lost to bum ass lauzon, pettis lost to guida and had one win after that, and maynard is def not an option to face edgar. So if Bendo beats Guida he should be next in line, who else is left thats more deserving…Ben Henderson = Future Champ
i think if henderson beats guida then lauzon vs henderson should decide who gets a title shot, lauzons a good fighter and he finds a way to win, he surprised me with his quick dispatch over guillard who, everyone knows, dana was hoping would get the next title shot

Im not completely counting Guida out here.. but i just dont see how he wins this. Bendo is better in pretty much every single area of the sport, Guida may have a cardio advantage but Bendo wont gas so it doesnt matter much. Ive called it like 100 times, i got Bendo being the new champ in 2012 and have Bendo/Cerrone 3 in late 2012 or early 2013 for the Title. I find it ironic that so many people thought the WEC guys wouldnt be able to hang in the UFC, and Bendo, Cerrone, and somewhat even Pettis are all close to a title shot. and a WEC champ will soon be a UFC champ
even tho henderson beat cerrone, i see donald as a more dangerous fight for edgar, style wise, donalds been puttin in work, hes my fav fighter ar 155 right now
Ill agree on the Cerrone being my fav at 155 but in a close 2nd is Bendo and Maynard. Personally i think Bendo would be the bigger threat, hes a very good wrestler, has good bjj, very good strikes, good cardio and is a very big LW. But Cerrone is almost as dangerous, hes fast and has power, great off his back.. If Edgar thought Grey’s uppercuts hurt wait until he tastes a Cerrone kick.. IMO Cerrone would KO Edgar.. cant pick a round though

Guida and Bendo will not beat Edgar. You need to slow Edgar down to hit him cause no one at LW can hit Edgar consistently. You can grab him and take him down, but can you hold him down. I can’t think of anyone right now that can beat Frankie at LW. At 145 he would struggle.
Looking back at the way Henderson destroyed Miller I can only say one thing to Guida: Clay this is going to hurt son…alot.
I’m not hoping for it, cause I like him……apart from the boring wrestling tactics against Pettis he always fought like a crazy lunatic, which wasn’t stylistically pretty to look at but definitely entertaining!

I like Guida and Bendo both…Hard match for me to pick, Guida has been on a roll and I’d like to see him fight for the belt as I think its his last chance but I think Bendo is the better match-up to Edgar. I don’t think Guida could beat Edgar.
I’m rooting for Bendo because I can’t stand Guida’s fight style. I also can’t stand his annoying bouncy hair! But, it’s going to be so funny when 95% of the people in this thread have to give him props for beating Bendo. Not saying that’s going to happen based on Darwin-ism but you never know. I’ve only seen Bendo fight the Cowboy.
