GSP’s Mentor: “I Think Georges Will Abandon His Belt”

As more pictures, stories, and tweets continue to pop up about a resting Georges St. Pierre and what the future may hold for #1 contender Johny Hendricks, we are flooded with whispering and rumors from outside sources that are alluding to GSP’s possible departure from mixed martial arts. No one is creating more of a buzz than his mentor, Kristof Midoux.

Midoux has been reported as talking about a possible retirement from the welterweight champ weeks before the UFC 167 showdown and all of his interviews have given an eerie, if not seemingly one-sided look at what may be going on with GSP. When speaking with Le Journal de Montreal, Midoux recently had this to say:

“I think Georges will abandon his belt and there will be a world championship without him. The decision is up to him and I expect him to come back from vacation to sit and talk with him.”

“But he is aware that he needs to rest. It must leave room for anything else in his heart.

I think he made the biggest career in this sport, but if he decides to return, for any reason, I will not be in his corner. I do not want to see him suffer more, having accomplished what all dream to accomplish.

He has another life [that] awaits. I think he has many other things to do, instead of trying to find out who is the strongest in the world, because he has proved that it was him.”

Though most would agree that GSP has put in a lot of work and has surely proven himself as a true champion of the sport, many people are saying that it doesn’t seem like his time to go. And with his constant updating on his state of mind being “better” and how relaxed he’s feeling on vacation, I personally don’t get many clues from Georges that he’s trying to leave either.

Tell me what you think: do you feel that Georges St. Pierre is ready to walk away dangling the belt, or do you feel that his mentors words are merely assumptions and personal hopes for the champ?

See what Midoux said he would do if GSP decided to stay active HERE.

LOST HIS LAST FIGHT and got his a”ss kicked

      “CHECK”

All GSP did was prove he isn’t anywhere near the same fighter without PED’s and now he has a huge sh’itstain in his legacy and everyone knows he lost to Hendricks

I hope he comes back for one more; GSP vs. JH 2. If he takes the time to sort out his personal affairs and comes back focused/healthy, JH will get schooled. Then he should call it quits.

  5. mean170 says:

Retire with the belt. Yeah, you won a controversial decision, so what. Years from now when people look back, all they’ll remember is that you are the greatest 170er of all time. You’re rich, you proved yourself time after time, and you helped take MMA to the next level. Hang up the gloves, knowing you were one of the best to ever do it.

  6. hanibal says:

I would like to see him one last time against JH, I think he wasn’t on his best that day and also on his two previous fights..
I think a focused happy gsp can do much better than what we saw, but at the same time I hope he doesn’t stay afterwards coz he’s one of the most boring champions

  7. Peter says:

GSP and his crowd are playing games and manipulating the whole shit to retain the tittle and move out as champion. They are just CANADIAN COWARDS and know GSP is a looser; the really champion is Hendricks now and everybody knows that..
