GSP Trainer Wants Silva To Move Down to 170 For Super Fight | UFC NEWS

“I wouldn’t want [St-Pierre] to move up, I’d want Anderson to come down,” Zahabi said. “I don’t know if Anderson can make 170 or something close to that. If Georges goes up, I know he won’t be able to come back down, he’s told me many times if he goes up he won’t go back down, and I believe him when he says that because he’d want to spend some serious time getting extra size on him. and, … I would want [Silva] to come down as close to 170 as possible if that was the case.

“You know, the thing is, the next day he’ll balloon up over 200, and I don’t think that’s fair,” Zahabi said. ” I don’t think that’s a fair fight. If he can make the cut to 170, that would be great. Georges has to fight everyone at 170, and that’s the case. Really I think it would be even and fair. Even if [Silva] would balloon up the next day, he would be weakened by the weight cut, there would be something there.”

Tristar head trainer and GSP coach, Firas Zahabi, talking to this morning on “The MMA Hour”.

  1. John Johnson says:

But it was fair for BJ to fight GSP when GSP outweighed him by 30 pounds?

    And the same for Rory?

I’m sick of these scared weenies. BJ’s the last of a dying breed.

    • STFU HATER says:

Hey John Johnson are you stupid, BJ competed for the welterweight title, it wasn’t gsp competing for the lightweight title you moron, so if BJ isn’t a natural welterweight it’s his fault for going up a weight class, but you’re obviously not too bright so I understand your idiotic confusion. So instead of calling these true fighters “scared little weenies” why don’t you actually get in a cage like a man and shut your mouth

    • Dat_guy says:

Stfu Hater is right , its was Penn who made the call. Its was a title defence for GSP, plus Bj is another of those guy who can ballon pretty much easily . He fought at 140 outside the UFC , 150 and 170 in the UFC.

    • CombatRusse says:

      I agree with you
My sympathie for GSP is gone, because he and his coach are already starting to fuck up with the Spider. But you know what mother fuckers at tristar? the biggest cheater/big mouth of the UFC also tried to fuck up with Silva, you know the outcome
I can’t wait to see GSP crying after Silva fucks up his solar plexus, or even better his liver

    • Me says:

I dont know why everyone wanna see this fight, id rather see silva vs bisping/weidman than this. I think GSP just cant move up or down in weight like that, its not even fun to watch a fight if both arent at maximum power. Fighters arent like BJ, theres only him and rich franklin thats left from the good ol days. Fans should just let this fight go

    • BJJWhiz says:

      Dont forget the greasing!!!

  2. Sean says:

WOW. I’ll just say it again…Bj goes up with no mention of weight disadvantage and fairness, while GSP and Faras want anderson to be drained to shit at 38 years old before they accept the fight

    • vaughn says:

bj fought lyoto machida regardless of the weight

    • Civilian says:

BJ went up without hesitation, that’s correct. But look how well he did: 2-4-1 at welterweight in the UFC… Not a great percentage by any means.

GSP v. Silva is a lose-lose scenario. If Silva wins, he’s just picking on a smaller guy and GSP’s confidence is shattered. If GSP wins, he doesn’t even get a belt out of it, and Anderson’s legacy is shattered…

I think it’s a short-sighted move by the UFC. I’d much rather see Silva fight Jones, which is much more beneficial for all involved.

  3. EP says:

Faras is a f**king douchebag im so sick of these guys and this whole camp… true fighters like Anderson, BJ, Shogun, Diaz bros etc will move up or down and fight anyone anytime without all this BS involved. True Warriors. Unlike these TriStar punks.

    • VS says:

For sure man! I agree with you 100%. I don’t get why everyone should be accommodating GSP. Why can’t he move up/down weight and everyone else can for him. F THAT!

    • Mike b says:

It’s easy for u to say that cause ur not a fighter obviously so shut the fuck up.U probably never trained a day in ur life or fought.Ur not fighting for them so shut up and go to sleep!

      • Mike b says:

Everybody on this forum is a moron!Except STFU Hater.I don’t see anybody stepping foot inside that cage and fighting!Bunch of ingnorant punks!

      • EP says:

shut up bro save urself. what are you the only fighter on here, or maybe not, maybe you are the one who has never trained or stepped foot inside an octagon. i train boxing and mma (muay tai, bjj, judo) i have never fought inside an octagon, but in rings many times. so dont sit behind ur computer and run your mouth about people who fight and dont fight…. everyone has a right to their own opinion. I have been following this sport since ’98 … so save ur bs for someone who gives a sh*t with that said, BJ is going murder Rory Dec 8th … and Silva will murder GSP if the fight happens, oh yeah and F**K TRISTAR AND F**K YOU… hows that for you, internet tuff guy … f’n piker.

  4. GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

Greg Jackson can’t watch because he already heard they both didn’t follow his pre-fight instructions for them both to run away from each other for 25 minutes.

Please Greg do GSP a huge favor and stay away forever because without you there we actually got to see some (OLD) GSP pre-GregJackson point-SAFE fighting. I just wish Greg Jackson would go away never RUIN a great fighter again. Even Rashad use to runa way when he was at Jackson’s now he’s a REAL fighter and doesn’t wear track shoes inthe cage anymore. Greg Jackosn is the most overrrated person on gods green earth. Everytime he’s in the cage during a fight only thing he knows that he thinks can help a fighter is to say “BREATH” BREATH” BREATH partner “BREATH” its almost as annoying as Diego “SCREWBALL” Sanchez’s “YES” “YES” “YES” and whats even more funny is Diedo’s yes man who he worshiped stole every dime he had tohis name in an investment SCAM, “YES” “YES” “YES”

  5. Dotness says:

Pure nonsense. George can’t lose weight if he goes up? What kind of bozo talk is this? Saying Silva would balloon 30 pounds overnight? GSP is Simply scared for his life. Once again, pure nonsense.

  6. Lucas says:

175 at maximum, this is a sport not a freak show, Anderson fight at 205 3 TIMES and now that pussy is hungry to fight a 5´10 170´s, grow some balls and fight Jones.

  7. Gee says:

Obviously, this guy has a tainted understanding of the word ‘fair’. If he really wants a FAIR fight, then BOTH fighters must fight at a catch weight. Which means silva goes down a bit and GSP goes up a bit so they can meet in the middle. But this dude wants Silva to be the only one to adjust. NOT FAIR. Both fighters must compensate to make the fight happen. (I remember FLoyd Mayweather putting non-sense stipulations just so he can avoid Manny Pacquiao.) This is almost the same case. I think the GSP camp is scared shitless of the spider. It’s just too obvious.

    • Riiiiiiight...... says:

Yea making sure your opponent isn’t juiced to this gills is nonsense. Not agreeing to 50/50 split when your the biggest PPV draw in history is also nonsense. Another PACTARD heard from.

    • Dotness says:

You couldn’t be more correct. Not only that but stating if GSP goes up he can’t come down? What kind of buffoonery is this camp coming with? This is 100% foolishness. The camp is coming up with excuses that are borderline MADNESS. What happened to the “gladiator” mind state he was talking about in the post fight press conference? BJ Penn fought Machida at 205 and damn near won in a match before the UFC. Anderson goes up and fights Forrest who is a giant in comparison. Bonner is way bigger than him too (and on steroid like Chael). GSP Says Anderson walks around at 230 whiich is 100% nonsense? GSP is scared for his life (as he should be LOLOL).

    • green says:

i think everyone agrees that Silva should fight Jones. Silva admitted he wanted an easier fight. If thats not a bitch move by the P4P best fighter i don’t know what is. His age is irrelevant. He hardy breaks a swet fighting anyway. the issue is that he is clearly heavier and even at a catch weight GSP will not get much bigger after weigh ins while silva will balloon back to 200+. Its a messed up system but if weight didn’t matter there wouldn’t be divisions based on them. That all i’m saying.

  8. kris says:

jon jones is talented but still new-ish. people have been wanting gsp and anderson long before jon was on tuf. stfu about it already. gsp needs to stop making excuses and start training. i cant wait for anderson to beat the shit out of him

  9. jason says:

why not have Silva tie one had behind his back while your at it?

  10. Guss says:

No matter how you put it, it’s an unfair fight. St.Pierre would get his ass kicked. I’m a fan, but Silva is just too big. And even if Silva considered dropping to WW, that’s a huge deficite from his natural weight of 210-215. An unfair advantage for GSP. It’s just not realistic match up. Unless St. Pierre packs on more weight and moves up to MW. But that would pretty much end his career as a WW. Some guys can easily move up and down weight classes, like Silva and BJ, with little to no consequence. Guys like GSP can’t. That’s just his physiology. A better superfight match up, and more realistic and entertaining…Silva vs Jones at LHW or MW. I think Jones can easily make 185. Much easier than Silva trying to make 170.

    • 8boll says:

LOL! what a load of bull! So GSP, the sports single most prominent physical specimen can’t move up or down, but an out of shape guy that rarely trains 100% like BJ can?! Silva is not a muscle bound 205er so why does GSP need all this time to build up muscle mass to move up 7lbs?! Come on with his physiology! GSP is THE ONLY GUY THAT CAN LOGICALLY move up and down because of his physiology! He’s scared and its easy to see. Second bit of nonsense you said is JBJ can drop to 185 EASILY?! Dude u are dillussional to say the least! Do the math, 185 – 205 = 20lbs difference, 185 – 170 = 15lbs difference.
Silva is 6’2 same as Condit and has 1′ reach on GSP. JBJ is 6’4 and has 7′ reach on Silva! Its obvious when you do the math, Silva is closer in size to GSP.

  11. Shemonito says:

wow, you bozos on this site are hilarious. Bunch of 12 year olds who know nothing about fighting and weight cutting. REMEMBER Silva is the one calling out GSP. He should accommodate, or move up, and STFU!

    • 8boll says:

I think the only bozo here is you lol It was GSP who was asked first a few years back if he would consider moving up to challenge Silva and he came up with his story of yes but he would need time to gain the muscle and this that and the other while Silva barely entertained the idea saying ‘it would be a fun fight’ but 3 years down the line and Silva is now expected to move down to him? What for exactly? To win th WW title? and then defend it? A catch-weight is the best option here. Silva is not interested in the WW belt and its in GSPs interest not to put it on the line vs Silva so if he loses he can fall back to his belt like BJ did.

  12. Xaninho says:

“Really I think it would be even and fair. Even if [Silva] would balloon up the next day, he would be weakened by the weight cut, there would be something there.”

What’s fair about that? And stop the bullshit about ballooning up because everyone could see GSP was HUGE saturday.

  13. Josiah says:

i’d love to see GSP vs AS, catch-weight is good, maybe around 175-178. but i think its more of an advantage for the one that gained weight. specially for a guy like GSP it will probably add some power to his take-downs and could possibly pull of a chael victory over AS.

    • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

Why is it everyone doesn’t realize how over the top JUICED UP out of his fricken mind Sonnen was in Silva fight. He had enough JUICE in him to jump over the damn moon and that is only reason he fought so far over his head. Ask anyone who knows anything about testosterone or has been on it. Just in small doses it makes 50 yr old feel like superman so try and imagine what it does for 30 yr old athletes like Sonnen and Nate “THE CHEAT” Marquardt. It makes you into an animal and stromng as a gorilla. Trust me there is a very good reason they call it performance enhancement. People need to pretend that fight never happened because it was aFRAUD

  14. jbeamazing says:

anderson is just trying to take the attention off of the fight the fans really want to see and that’s him and jones I think it’s a smart move for gsp to only take the fight at welt and if he needs examples of excuses he can just study the long list of ones made by anderson. the guy is supposed to be the best in the world yet his last fight was bonnar that would be like gsp moving up for one match with scott smith

  15. jbeamazing says:

by the way when your considered the best ever how can you challenges a guy one weight class down and not expect people to think that’s weak I don’t even think gsp can beat all the welter weights down there let alone anderson and anderson knows that

  16. Frank says:

Gsp is full of shit, he walks around at 195 so all he would have to do is cut a little less weight. Meet at 178 I would love to see Anderson knock him out !

  17. saiasaka says:

I’m bored of fans talking about how bigger is Anderson; I, too, don’t want to see that fight; I prefer him against Jones but in the case of a fight between him and GSP it’s not just about the fucking size, Silva is WAY MUCH talented than GSP will ever be…

  18. MICHEL SAVOIE says:

  19. Night-Wind says:

I don’t understand this shit at all. GSP walks around what, 190-200lbs? It’s easier him to cut 185/177 or so than 170. Going up and down, don’t understand what Georges mean on that, he fights like one time in a year. Is it fair then that Anderson drops like 50lbs? No.

    • 8boll says:

Couldn’t agree more! They say Silva walks around at 230 LOL Thats almost as big as Big Nog and JDS LOL XD and Silva is always nest to Big Nog and has never looked anything close to his size, but hey he walks around at 230lbs and if he did weigh that much, they seriously expect him to cut 50lbs and still call it a fair fight? Logical…

  20. Dana Is Greedy says:

The statement he made “at least he will be weaken “shows the character of this camp and not wanting a fair fight..Bj and other fighters willing to fight at different weights is what cements their legacys in MMA win or lose to did it for the love of sport is great..Thats what made me a lifetime fan when in UFC 1 I seen a man outweighed go in a cage and come a winner..

  21. VICTORZ says:

  22. Zack says:

You guys are getting way too excited. This fight will never happen. Gsp does not have the stones to step in the octagon with silva at any weight. Can’t blame the man. He thinks that kick from condit hurt… Silva would be the first man to put gsp to sleep.

  23. hellawaits says:

the people that say anderson is a bitch and give the example that he already fight 3 times in lh, that is a example of his bravery not the other way, i hate people who say that anderson vs gsp is unfair but is totally cool that anderson fight jon jones. and before jon jones arrived everyone wants to see gsp vs anderson, especially after the first sonnen fight, better say you want to anderson streak in the ufc over

  24. Rob says:

Silva wants glory that’s y he wants Gsp , they both been champs for a while now we know we’re they both stand. Jones is bad a$$ but he hasn’t been around long enough yet and I’m sure if Gsp don’t fight silva it will be jones vs silva. Jus my two cents

  25. magoo says:

Catch weight 177.5 lbs weigh ins on day of fight.
Doesn’t get any more fair then that.
