GSP Defends Boring Performance Of Teammate Rory MacDonald

Last Saturday Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger fought and did not live up to their hype. The two welterweight fighters received more boo’s than cheers following their co-main event which was billed as a potential title eliminator.

In the aftermath, MacDonald teammate, GSP took to Canada’s TSN to defend his pupil and support Rory’s game plan.

“He shouldn’t care about the critics. You don’t brawl with a brawler. It was up to Ellenberger to open up and take more risk because he was losing and he didn’t. Rory fought a great fight and even made it look relatively easy.”

  1. shurrup gsp says:

Gsp would have to defend his style, for him to say otherwise would only make him a laughing stock as he is probably the most boring play it safe gameplanner in all of MMA.Huge talent but zero excitement!

  2. Of course... says:

…Gsp will defend his boring style of fighting…

  3. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

I actually fell asleep a couple of times watching that fight.

  4. Slim Charles says:

    GSP is right hough.

  5. todd says:

Yes, fighters with no KO power should just stand in the pocket and exchange punches with fighters with one punch KO power so us keyboard warriors can be amused by them being concussed and getting cut from the UFC after a loss.

  6. boring says:

    fight was boring as hell…

Personally I don’t think Ellinberger or Rory are top 5 at all.

    • Jujitsu Player says:

The fight was boring but Rory had a fight strategy and executed it perfectly. Ellenberger was completley ineffective and took no chances. After all the talking he should be embarressed.

I disagree re your top 5 statement. Rory is the second best 170lb in the world. And I can’t think of more than 3 or 4 guys who would beat Ellenberger…

  7. Ofcourse says:

It would be GSP to defend Rory of his style.. I mean GSP does it all the time,it would be stupid of him to say otherwise. Oh well maybe after his fight with Hendricks he will play a different tune.

  8. Shooter McGurk says:

Maybe those guys cups were too tight.
Lawler and Voelker were swinging like they had a pair. Better to watch two lower ranked fighters beef than two higher ranked guys dance. Skill sets aside, boring is boring. I think Joe Rogan might have dozed off for a minute or two.

  9. confucius says:

granted it wasnt exciting it takes two so blame jake just as much as rory. Rory has stopped more fights then decision wins but everybody is quick to talk shit on somebody the second they point their way to a victory. nobody has made jake look like that in any of his UFC fights so as boring as it was, it definitely was effective. People are quick to forget how dominate Rory was over BJ in his last outing.
