Greg Jackson: “I wouldn’t want to see Georges upset” | UFC NEWS

Georges St. Pierre is a very reserved and humble champion. Normally the UFC Welterweight champion is completely respectful of his opponent, and at times praises them. Nick Diaz has brought out a different GSP, a trash talking, darker and a very upset GSP. Trainer Greg Jackson recently spoke with Sherdog Radio about if the hatred of Diaz would affect him in the upcoming title fight.

“I don’t think so,” said Jackson. “Just because Georges is so smart. I always say that, but I don’t know if people realize just how smart he really is. He understands the game extremely well. Even if he gets mad, he’ll be able to control it and keep his business his business. He’s incredibly smart, like off-the-charts smart. I think he’s going to be much too smart to fall for that.”

GSP is one of the greatest mix martial artists of all-time, he may even be the greatest Welterweight to ever walk the earth. He is efficient in his fight plan. GSP is the best at utilizing a plan that takes his opponent’s weaknesses and exposes them to take the victory. Jackson went on to say what GSP needed to do to ensure victory against Diaz.

“Nick Diaz as a fighter, I really like him because he’s one of those few fighters that can almost always make somebody play his game. He does it in really smart ways. He’ll back you up against the fence and basically have a shootout that he’s probably going to win. If you take him down, you’ve got to deal with some really good ground skills. If you don’t engage that, he throws his arms up. He starts trying to punk you. He tries to attack your manhood so that you get mad at him, so that you do start playing that game. He’s really smart at what he does. He’s very, very clever, but as long as you stay away from those things, as long as you control those elements, you have a good chance of winning. It’s just dealing with that really, really smart pressure that he has that makes this fight interesting.”

Jackson went on to talk about how GSP will fight an individual that he has feelings of true hatred towards.

“Up to the fight, I’m sure [GSP] will be emotionally invested in it. I wouldn’t want to see Georges upset. I’ll put it that way. He’s a son of a gun even when he’s calm and rational. … I’ve worked with that guy for years, and if you got him really upset and he stays focused, that would be a very dangerous individual.”

UFC 158 will take place on March 16th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

  1. Big Daddy says:

Greg Jackson is the cancer to mma like greased sp is the cancer of the ww. They need to try and make ufc fights more of the fights from when the sport started. The yellow card 10% deduction for stalling is great! Idk why they don’t do that.

    • Nuitari X says:

I agree, Jackson is a douchebag. GSP is a smart and talented champion. He’s just not a very exciting champion. They should definitely bring the yellow card back cause if they did who knows what the fighters would be like. Hell Fitch might not have got cut if he had to worry about that money before deciding to hump on someone.

      • Magoo says:

You don’t have to worry about yellow cards with George!! He’ll stay busy on top smashing Diazs face with elbows, and posturing up with bombs. But I think it’s gonna be a head kick that Georges uses to finish the fight.

  2. magoo says:

Penn,Serra, and Koscheck have all been there,Diaz is gonna get wrecked in 4 more days!!!!

    • Patrick Jenkins says:

Its very doubtful that GSP will KO diaz on their feet. watch the penn fights GSP rode penn till he was tired plus diaz done a lot more damage to penn. Koscheck isn’t a great example of a fighter who is confident off his back. And let’s be honest the first Matt Serra fight was last time GSP really took a chance and we all know what happened their. I’m not saying Diaz is a lock but don’t surprised if he will after all it is a fight isn’t it.

  3. Ryan Dockins says:

I guarantee Diaz wins on Saturday! He’ll finish GSP by tko! I’m calling it right now! Say what you want, but I’ll be back here Saturday night to check in. 4th round! He’s gonna wear GSP out with his pace!

    • magoo says:

Doing a triathlon for Diaz is gonna feel like a cake walk compared to going 5 rounds with the champ! Tko Diaz in the 4th rnd u say….. lmao I highly doubt it Diaz will be bleeding and defenceless by then!

  4. magoo says:

nah lol just kidding… WAR DIAZ

  5. UFC 84 Forever says:

Magoo hit the nail on the head.

As much as I love Penn, UFC 94 was a demolition derby, and every guy to piss off GSP has never been the same after the beating they took.

Not even Hughes really, if you think about it. Most guys are never the same after they lose to GSP (Alves, Fitch, Hughes, Serra, Hardy), some of them didn’t even have to piss him off haha. I think Diaz will have the talent to push back after the loss, but I don’t think there’s a world that exists were Diaz could actually beat St-Pierre.

Can’t wait to see if life this Saturday though!

Having said that, you can win a fight without beating your opponent (depending completely on your definition of beat), I see it that beating someone is a lot like outclassing them and proving your skills are far superior, and then a win is any W in the column really.

But that’s just a narrow view of it…

  6. Kender says:

He’s incredibly smart, like off-the-charts smart.
Wow that must be really really smart

  7. jack lee says:

Leg kicks, leg kicks, jabs, jabs. Pin him to the cage and wear him down a little Take down, elbows, elbows. Diaz is bleeding….transition to side control. More GNP. Third round ref stoppage due to strikes….and still……..

    • Ddddddd says:

Although its a rough one it would be silly as$ sweet to see Diaz upset considering Weidman and Pettis are gonna.
Don’t make me say:that’s alright Hendricks will make up for what you couldn’t do.

    • Patrick Jenkins says:

Thanks man don’t need to watch it just saved myself some money. Can I get your contanct number so I can get tips for the bookies.

  8. mhh says:

It amazes me that people still believe gsp finishes fights. Really???? The guy hasn’t finished a fight in 4 years.

    • magoo says:

True he may not have finished anyone in 4 years, but like UFC 84 says he’s certainly made them all broken men in there careers…. and that my friend is a fact!! Think about it!

  9. toto says:

GET READY TO SEE BLOOD, BECUZ DIAZ WILL GET CUT OPEN 100% IN THE FIRST ROUND he has too much scar tissue on his face im telling you we will see a bleeding nick diaz thats for sure! maybe hell poke gsp in the eye 2 with his boxing lol 2/3 last fights maybe even more gsp got poked in the eye lol smh anyways have fun with the fights folks!!!! cuz i will lolz

  10. CanadianMMAFan 420 says:

I think this magoo guy should take his tongue out of GSP’s ass, seriously dude riding nuts much?

  11. 123 says:

nah id say magoo is right.. George St Pierre is too much for every1 he fights.

  12. Ddddddd says:

Has anyone seen these contenders coming up in 70?
It isn’t Goerges taking fighters souls its the fact that they can’t best the fresh guys in the division. Oh ya and let me guess if
Gregg Jackson did see Gsp angry he’d run
