Georges St. Pierre vs Nick Diaz official as UFC 158 headliner | UFC News
UFC officials confirmed today that former Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz (26-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC) will face current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (23-2 MMA, 17-2 UFC) in the main event of UFC 158, set for March 16th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
GSP and Diaz were originally scheduled to fight in October of 2011 at UFC 137, but Diaz failed to show-up for a pair of promotional appearances and was subsequently pulled off the card. However, in an odd twist, he was later placed back on the card against B.J. Penn after St. Pierre was forced to withdraw from the event with a knee injury.
GSP vs. Diaz was then planned to take place at UFC 143, but once again “Rush” was forced off the card, which allowed Carlos Condit to step in and defeat Diaz in a hotly-contested decision win and in doing so claim the UFC interim welterweight title. Diaz then tested positive for marijuana metabolites in a post-fight drug test, resulting in him being suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission through February 2013.
Hopefully the third time will be the charm, and the French Canadian and 209 Native can finally have their grudge-match.

finallly someone is going give diaz his fair shake after the condit robbery..an diaz willl be champ…gsp is going lose anyways its a new breed with hendricks comin next…with gsp baby chin hendrix my have literally killed him
I fail to see the logic in that. Despite the fact that yeah he should have fought gsp way back when, I don’t see him leveling gsp at all. He may have lost a controversial decision to condit but it was still a decision loss. He obviously didn’t dominate or finish him. Meanwhile, condit got his ass handed to him by a gsp who was out for a year and a half. I see gsp doing the same thing to Diaz as he did to condit and that bendo did to his little brother. Out-wrestling and being quicker and more athletic than him, picking him apart and ground and pounding him.
Stoked to finally see this matchup. But to see GSP handle Condit the way he did, I dont see this fight playing out much different. GSP will overwhelm Diaz with wrestling and GNP.
Would love to see Diaz box GSP up….get the takedown and submission.
Johnny’s gotta win one more…. again. Tough matchup for him too.
Im a big diaz fan and i cant wait for this one! Im not gona say aww man he is gona smash him or whatever, i am really looking foward to these two styles meeting up, did everyone forget that nick is more experienced and better at the moment then his little bro?! Nate will be back though, give him a year or two!
people forget that nicks bjj will beat gsp wrestling..nick is more dangerous then jake sheilds on the ground and gsp was shit scared to take sheilds down (unless the round was ending) diaz has way way better boxing an uch better bjj…this will shock many ignorant fans
Good deal, lets go Diaz, don’t smoke any dope for a little while.
WAR DIAZ!!!! This is the best news yet…..I am not going to say who or who won’t win. But it will be a war….I love the fights fueled by hatred for one another. Makes the fights a lot more exciting and meaningful when one person does win. But I’m rooting for Diaz….Stockton slap!!!
Why are the Diaz fags still in the UFC? They’re bad for the image but yet they get these title shots they don’t deserve. Give the match to Hendricks because I hate these Diaz thugs!
I don’t really hate the Diaz brothers, but I do believe that Johny Hendricks has more than earned his shot for the title. Let Diaz have his opportunity after the match-up, if he can stay off the drugs.
Maybe they won’t care about him fighting high this time
Live to see this fight….
So he gets a title shot after coming off a loss?
Nick Diaz beat GSP? Not enough dedication, great fighter both brothers, always looked forward to there fights, exsp Nick in the WEC..Nate just dont have the dedication like Nick anymore!
I love how people are still giving Diaz a shot. The very fact he’s getting a fight in the UFC is a disgrace. After all the chaos he’s caused when he finally got his chance to go about earning the title shot vs Condit. He lost and no that wasn’t controversial he lost the fight then acted with about as much maturity as a 3 year old.
Now he gets to come back with no fight before to see if he’s even in fighting shape. And he’s getting a title shot vs GSP. This has gone from a main event to a tune up. Diaz is showing up for a check just watch. 50-43 50-44 50-44 GSP wins and we wont see Diaz again. Yet another random undeserved fighter getting a title shot. That being if Diaz can manage to not lose the shot by throwing hissy fits and not showing up for press conferences. I read this and felt so let down. This is such a waste of a fight. Silva vs GSP is what we’re all waiting for. Not drop out Diaz.
