I dunno. Seemed like the stoppage was a little early, don’t you think? He was definitely rocked, but I think he’d still qualify as intelligently defending. I know its a bit of a “hindsight is 20/20″ sort of thing, but he didn’t have a problem springing up and arguing with the ref.
You could be right but at that point it would’ve been tough for Smith to recover especially if he ate some more significant punches.

It may have been stopped slightly early, but even if it continued for a few seconds the outcome would have been the same, his guard was dropped and punches were raining in. Referee just spared him a few extra bruises.
He was out. As he fell back, his hands dropped and that meant he was no longer able to defend himself – stoppage necessary.
