Frankie Edgar Wants Cub Swanson Next, Swanson Wants The Title
After his won over BJ Penn at The Ultimate Fighter 19 finale, UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar made it clear what he wanted next. He told Joe Rogan, “I want to fight for the title, or a fight to get me to the title.”
Now, according to Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, Edgar has opted for the latter choice and set his eyes on No. 3 ranked featherweight Cub Swanson. The fight would obviously be a number one contender match, with the winner moving on to fight for the title whenever Jose Aldo’s injuries heal up and he fights Chad Mendes. Edgar is ranked No. 2 but has only beaten two opponents since his unsuccessful title fight against Aldo in 2013. Meanwhile, Swanson is currently on a tear and has pulled off six straight victories inside the octagon.
When Swanson was asked about Edgar’s call out he said, “I was told my fight would be for a belt. I don’t think he has one of those,” Swanson told Helwani.
“But I wouldn’t mind punching him.”
What do you guys think, does the fight make sense or should Swanson automatically get the next title shot?
