Frankie Edgar Picks Weidman to Dethrone Silva

With the heavy anticipation continuing to build ahead of UFC 162: Silva vs Weidman, more and more fighters are coming forward with their picks for the main event on July 6th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

To the surprise of many in the MMA community, most of the pro’s have picked Chris Weidman to upset the G.O.A.T. Anderson Silva. Most notably was UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, who stated that he wasn’t interested in a super fight with Silva because he knows that Weidman will dethrone the P4P king. The most recent former champion to pick Weidman is fellow Tri-state native, Frankie “The Answer” Edgar, who is also slated to compete at UFC 162 against Charles Oliveira.

The latest edition of UFC Live Chat this past Wednesday featured Edgar, and when he was asked who he believes will take the middleweight strap home on July 6th Frankie stated, “Gotta go with the East Coast boy Weidman. He’s the whole package. Anderson has fought good wrestlers, but Chris has got great jiu-jitsu and a solid standup game as well.” This makes yet another former champion or current title-holder to choose Weidman over Silva.

While it may appear hasty to some in the MMA universe to pick Weidman against the man who has shattered records and amazed the world, the soft spoken New Yorker has top-notch wrestling credentials, a black belt in BJJ under Matt Serra, and an ever-evolving striking game. To many, Weidman is the perfect opponent to defeat “The Spider” and take a belt that most have long considered untouchable.

UFC 162 takes place July 6th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card airs live on PPV at 10PM ET and 7PM PT, with the prelims airing on FX prior to the main card. What does Penn Nation think? Will Weidman dethrone Silva? Will Anderson put an end to his most challenging adversary to date?
