Frank Mir vs. Cain Velasquez In The Works For 2012

The big boss, Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed yesterday that the UFC is working on putting together a heavyweight clash between two former champions.

Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez is in the works for an undisclosed future event confirmed Fertitta in a fan Q&A yesterday evening.

Former two-time heavyweight champion, Frank Mir will bring a three-fight win streak into the matchup. After picking up a loss to Shane Carwin back in 2010 he went on to defeat Mirko Cro Cop via knockout, than took out Roy Nelson in the months after. In his most recent outing he put on an almost troubling display against MMA legend, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 140 where he submitted the Brazilian with a kimura and broke his arm in front of the live pay-per-view audience.

Velasquez came into the sport as the “next big thing”. With loads of hype surrounding the AKA heavyweight he rose to the height of the sport, winning the UFC’s heavyweight title against Brock Lesnar in 2010 and keeping his undefeated record intact. The undefeated heavyweight went on to headline the first ever UFC on FOX event last year where he lost his title in his first defense to Junior Dos Santos.

Again, a date has yet to be determined for this proposed heavyweight matchup but when details emerge will we run an update.

Stay tuned.

WOULD RATHER SEE MIR vs. WERDUM……………

    CAPS RAGE!!!

  2. JayPanda says:

^ agreed but if this fight happens I got Cain by KO

  3. CVOverated says:

Frank Mir has super heavy hands, and has improved a lot since Lesnar 2 fight, didnt have a smart fight with Carwin but Cain has pillow hands and cant hit for shit. All his fights are TKO’s not KO’S exept for punching bag NOG. If he tries to take Mir down he will get his arm broken too. The hype train is long gone. I think Mir will make it to HW Title, and JDS is going to drop him, especially for what he did to Big NOG. All the beener shitting flames out of their pendejo assholes will talk shit about my comment but u can suck it bitches, fuck you and your brown pride racist bullshit.

    • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Cain is going to KO or TKO Frank because Cain is younger and Frank’s chin isn’t that great. If anything Frank can submit him but I am sure Cain is hungrier than Frank for another shot at the title. Who know? Maybe Zombie Mir will make a return to snap off more limbs.

    • danriverapv says:

CVOverated Fuck you and you’re white supremacist talk, Cain is going to press the action and exploit Mir’s ever known weakness that is wrestling. We all no that is going to happen.

    • Coffee409 says:

You’re further off mark then Mir’s striking capabilities.

      Cain by outclassification.

    • victor says:

      Stuped fuck!cant even spell.

    • Carlos says:

Dude big nog fucked up Mir but herb dean saved mir’s ass by threatening to dq nog so he went 4 a sub fuked it up and mir got lucky.

  4. Berserker says:

    frank mir has this one

    • BX81 says:

I agree. I like mir more than cain but mir has drasticly improved on the feet and some in the wrestleing but he def. has the BJJ dept on lock. Cain is quick good wrestler has good cardio and kicks. Good fight can’t wait!

  5. GMoney$han says:

Huge Frank Mir fan. But i think Cain smashes him in the 1st or 2nd rd

  6. Xaninho says:

    Again the creepy smile pic?

  7. danriverapv says:

Frank takes the most awkward pictures!

  8. lalo diesel says:

cain is faster than mir…no chance… maybe mir vs gonzaga …..

  9. toneloc24 says:

If big nog hurt mir with his slow ass hand speed then Cain is gunna bust his shit all up. N I hate mir so this is gunna be great. I agree tho mir vs werdum would be an awesome fight. Scrap this fight and throw him in there with werdum and the first one the break a limb or go to sleep wins

  10. TOOK ERRR JEERRRBBBSS!!!! says:

I think this fight will be a big test for Mir but he has the tools to win. Sure, Velasquez did get KO’d by JDS but he is still one of most dangerous HW fighters in the division. I personally think that standing, it can go either way. Wrestling is all Cain. BJJ is all Mir. It should be a great fight tho. : )

  11. Chartmonster says:

Damn..two of my favorites! Great fight hard call to make..

  12. lex walker says:

either cain will ko him in the 1st round or mir will win

  13. Al says:

Tough fight to call this one Mir has been looking so good lately and who knows how hungry Velasquez is going to be after suffering his first loss in such a short fight coming back. Thet both definitely have what it takes to get a W over each other. I will have this one as a do not bet for me.

I think Werdum would more than likely serve as a replacement if either fighter gets injured. Werdum vs Mir or Velasquez is a fucking 5 star replacement fight.

  14. lalo diesel says:

cain vs carwin…. werdum vs kongo..and mir vs lesnar 3 …

  15. Al says:

^Lesnar is retired and he wouldn’t come back to fight Mir anyway. Carwin would get killed by Cain. Kongo is a step down for Werdum

  16. Jujitsu Player says:

I like Mir but Cain will light him up. Cain by KO, would rather he fought Werdum better match up onthe feat and ground.

  17. steeler says:

frank is my favorite fighter but if he stands in front of cain not moving like he did against nog he will get koed but if he uses head movement and goes after him like he did against kongo or roy he could ko cain but cain has heavy hands so cain could catch him and if cain takes mir down he will get subbed so i think who ever strikes first will win but i think if cain strikes first mir still could win but i think if mir strikes first cain isnt coming back so depends if mir come out like he did against kongo or if cain goes for takedown mir 1 tko or sub but if he looks like he did against nog cain 1 tko

  18. Old Fight Fan says:

I’d like to see Mir win, but if he doesn’t submit Cain within the first round and a half, Cain’s much better cardio will ride him to victory.

I’d love to see the two extraordinary, top-of-food-chain ground games of Mir and Verdum go at it.
