UFC 164: Frank Mir to Welcome Josh Barnett Back to the UFC
Two former UFC heavyweight champions, Frank Mir and Josh Barnett, are set to do battle at UFC 164, the UFC announced via Twitter Wednesday evening.
Barnett (32-6) only recently signed back with the UFC, returning to the organization after more than 11 years fighting in various other shows. Barnett is coming into UFC 164 having won 9 of his last ten fights, the only blemish coming in a decision loss to Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Final.
Frank Mir (16-7) is one of the most decorated heavyweight fighters with the UFC, a two-time UFC heavyweight champion and fighting for the title 5 times. Though Mir lost his last fight- also to Daniel Cormier- in a 3-round decision, it was the best he has looked physically in a number of fights. Mir recently made the move to train under Greg Jackson, a change that certainly has brought new life to the 34-year old.
The UFC announced the fight, saying, “#UFC164 gets a heavyweight clash of entertainers- @TheFrankMir vs @JoshLBarnett! Tix now on pre-sale ticketmaster.com/ufc-164-milwau… #HD110 #MKE”
UFC 164 is scheduled for August 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Also on the card are Chad Mendes facing Clay Guida, Erik Koch fighting Dustin Porier, and Ben Rothwell fighting Brandon Vera in Vera’s first fight at heavyweight.
