Frank Mir | I already Had My Eye On JDS

“I would be lying if I said it didn’t pull me away from my preparations for Velasquez. The fact it came through was a good thing, because I already had one eye on dos Santos. I’m actually happy the fight got changed. We were like everyone else — reading the Internet, saying this guy tested positive; what’s up? He was already pretty checked out.”

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir tells ESPN that he is happy he got promoted to a title shot as opposed to having go through with his original opponent of Cain Velasquez.

Did the UFC make the right call?

Mir has a karate background and has bood boxing. His jiu jitsu is amazing! Anywhere this fight goes Frank mir has the win.

    • Hjortur Halldorsson says:

Good boxing does not compare to the great boxing JDS has and don’t forget that this fight starts with both fighters standing up. The only guy that will go down on the mat is Mir, so we will not see any of his jui jitsu skills in this fight.

      • jacob lee says:

Mir has been in the game and taken harder punches that JDS’s! And JDS is not a very good technical boxer by a long shot compared to my coaches! If you watch boxing then its clear to see JDS is not a (great boxer)

        • Hjortur Halldorsson says:

I mean great MMA boxer. He’s nothing compared to good professional boxers I realize that 😀
But I cannot agree that Mir has taken heavier punch than JDS throws, of course he got hit badly by Lesnar’s ground and pound and Carwin’s heavy hands, but I honestly think that JDS packs the heaviest one punch in the UFC.

        • jacob lee says:

Good point but what about tank abbot? he has alot of weight behing those punches lol

        • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

JDS also got hit by Carwin’s monster fist and has an underrated chin.

        • Silvas scared says:

JDS Heaviest one punch in the UFC? I can’t say I agree, he punched Nelson and Carwin a BIZZILION times and couldn’t put then away, BUT his Boxing is excellent. Ions above the competition. I’m a boxing fan convert and I think he would do well in Boxing against Vlad and Vitali!!

        • Joshi says:

Get your facts straight before you talk, Cain valasquez has the data to prove he throws a 1500 pound bite. Heavier then any heavyweight ever recorded

        • Santos says:

Dude ur smokin if you don’t think JDS has great boxing. He has probably the best hand in mma. And boxing and mma are two differnt things. so yeah you didn’t come off to brite

        • Jim says:

WTF are you talking about? Of course Santos doesn’t have great boxing by the standard of professional boxers, he’s an MMA fighter. I am inclined to agree that he has the best hands in the UFC right now, but that doesn’t mean his boxing is ‘great’. It’s only great MMA boxing, as someone has already pointed out.

It’s not him who’s not coming off too bright..

        • Wilkov says:

Disagree, best hands in the UFC technically would be the Diaz brothers in my opinion, but he definitely has the best boxing in the HW division. I don’t see Mir winning, I think their performances against Carwin show the flaws because Dos Santos is a better all-round fighter than Shane. (Who I like – don’t get crazy)

I think it will be a good fight, I’m intrigued to see how Dos Santos is on the ground which we might get to see here and to see how his jujitsu compares to Mir’s… it’ll be a good fight but I reckon Dos Santos retains the belt by TKO.

  2. Xaninho says:

That’s funny because JDS will have his fist on Mir’s eye soon.

  3. T.Daddy says:

JDS will ko Mir in under 3mins

  4. Coots says:

Mir will be asleep at 1:30 Of the first round!

  5. Mir, you just broke jds’s mentor arm…..he is going to knock you the fuck out

  6. T.Daddy says:

Its clear JDS is not a great boxer… Lmao! Come on now.. for real… He was a brazilian golden gloves champ… He out boxed everybody he has fought…

  7. Tom Buchanan says:

I’m a huge Mir fan and I’d love to see him win. But I really cant see him getting past the boxing of JDS, unless ofcourse the fight goes to the ground.

  8. Glen says:

90% of all the world top athletes from all sports are on the bloody Juice … Let’s have it right … Washing out products a nod and a wink A few days before a test and visit … Money talks …. Let’s all be honest about this … Swimmers , runners , rowers , footballers , wrestlers , gymnasts … It’s more rife than ever !!!!

    • Matthew Parker says:

Mir is the man … Hands down my favorite fighter . He may get knocked out hard sometimes but he always comes back and he always talks a lot of smack whenever hes in a fight. He’s confident and whether he gets in there and knocks JDS out or not, he’ll still be my favorite fighter. I want to see Mir destroy this clown.

  9. Trisha says:

JDS was trainning to fight Overeem he will have to ko Mir right in the beginning. If Mir takes him down, forget it, by by JDS

  10. Island power says:

Dos wins 2nd or 3nd round via Tko/ko. Mir can’t hang with him on his feet. And when Mir goes for takedown, he won’t get it. Dos could easily be a heavyweight boxer. Do your homework kids.

  11. Why does everyone count Mir out? The only one Mir hasnt F’d up is Lesnar. And yes he broke Big Nog’s arm, THE MENTOR! Not that it couldnt end with Mir having a broke jaw just as easily, of course it could, but Mir’s not green by any means and he’s mean as they come. If Mir gets it to the ground he’s taking whatever he gets hold of home! Gonna be a good one.

  12. Coco says:

    Hope Mir take him down!

  13. toneloc24 says:

The only thing Frank is gonna have his eyes on is the back of his eye lids when JDS leaves him sleeping in the middle of the octagon. Big Nog is way slower than JDS and doesn’t punch anywhere near as hard as him and even he was tagging Frank pretty bad in there fight. Frank better fake being hurt by a punch and drop to the ground and try to grab an arm or leg when JDS goes for the finish
