Weight lifting is not the best method for training as fighter

As a fighter weight lifting is not the best method for training your body true it is good fro building raw strength but big and bulky is slow and not very manageable in a fight unneeded muscles are heavy slow and out date weight lifting is an out dated and old method of training that is not going to cut it against fast and explosive atheltes as a fighter you should train your muscles to fire off faster and more explosive training the movement rather than the muscles it self how often dose a curl help you in a fight instead train your muscles to work longer to have constant explosive and powerful movement Isokenetic and Isometric work is the answer, balance, resistance, work body building and lifting rutines wont turn you into a top notch fighter think more along the lines of balancing on poles and Tabet Monk training that is more along the lines of propper training for a fighter here is video

says the 165lb 16 yr old. jk

weights are not the best but they cant be over looked. its just one peice of the puzzle. just like boxing is just one peice of the puzzle in mma. you cant rely on it, but its a tool you can take advantage of.

i see you posted a vid of polamalu. youre not goint to try and tell me he dont do some heavy lifting are you? what about evander holyfield. his muscle size didnt seen to slow him down. he was trained by lee haney (mr. olympia).

the truth is the best training for a fighter is fighting. just like if you want to run fast you gotta run.

true but knock out power is something you are born with hence holly field the best way to condition and train for fighting is this way sparring is how to improve but how to be come a faster more explosive athelete period is this right here weight lifting is good for building power but it forces the muscles to be bulky and slow and that is out dated Polamalu actually dosen't use heavy lifting very often in fact it was heavy lifting that got him hurt and I might be 165 but I can easly over power some one who is 265 it is the method of training I use my body posses just as much strength as some one twice my sizes it's just that I'm not huge and large bulky muscles slow you down explosion power and speed is needed as a fighter

polamalu is not known for his strength or speed. as a matter of fact, he is one of the slower safeties in the league. this may be because he is getting older and cant perform the explosive movements that all football players use to excel. these are the same lifts that they are rated on at combines. bench, squat and power cleans. how is this out dated if every college and nfl team use these lifts to help determine potential explosive ability.

when i refered to holyfield, i was talking about his speed vs. his muscle size. his chest and arms are very muscular. it doesnt seem to effect his speed. weight training was one of the core methods he used. of course if you just lift and nothing else, you cant develop speed. like i said in my previous post, its just one tool. but a valuable tool.

i agree with you about being born with heavy hands. but you can dramatically improve your punching power with weight training. if you want to improve the speed of your jab, there is no substitution, you have to jab.

the only way you can improve your punching speed is by punching.

your post was the best method for training as a fighter. i will stick with what i said "fighting is the best method for training as a fighter".

I know is fighting is the best method for train a fighter just as in footbal football practice is the best way to improve as a football player but how to excel your abilities to other limits would be to use the sports labs methods if you want GSP athletism and explosion then this is the best way weight lifting is good but not great there mpothod is to construct an athlete not fighter specifi from the ground of even from the toe training even your feet to be explosive training the nervous system it's self is un heard of and if holyfield did this kind of training he would be just as strong as he was with out the size eqauting to more speed mor explosiveness jab using a resistance cord or band see how much it improves I will show the world of the sports lab's methods are true you are dealing with completey constructed athelte when you are dealing with some one from teh sports lab

It depends on who you ask and how you train. Sherk, Couture, Rich Franklin, Lesnar, GSP and a bunch of other guys still uses weights and does very well.

For example, there's no exercise in the world like squats if you're honest and you arrange the timing and sets correctly.

The ache and the pain might fool you (and your trainer) if you really don't believe in lifting for fighting (e.g. squats are going to make you feel slow because the body isn't used to getting the whole organism taxed like it just got hit with an atom bomb) but it's only helped guys like me get the advantage in sports. It helps to believe in what you're doing and to do it right. Lifting like a fighter and not like a bodybuilder will do you good. If you don't do things correctly, your going to be slow and lose endurance too. Find a good trainer like Rhadi Ferguson and he'll have you doing everything.
