Who thinks UFC should have an open weight tournament like the old days? Out of the country only on pay per view haha that's what's up

MMA has evolved too much for something like that to be possible. The only reason a smaller Royce Gracie was able to compete against other heavyweights was because 99.9% of them were street brawlers or strikers who had no idea what BJJ was. Nowadays, you have heavyweights like Fedor who have so much knowledge of the ground game that it would be almost impossible for a weaker, smaller fighter to try and submit him. Look what happened to Aoki when he tried to submit Fedor. I mean can you imagine a lightweight fighting a heavyweight like Fedor?? As great as BJ is at 155, a 230lb Fedor would just crush him. Things have changed since UFC 1.

One word: Sanctioned

Sure if they want to go back to making $5000 championship bout purses, after fighting 3 times in a single day. This is now a sport not a circus side show. These guys are now prized figgting mixed martial artists, not back street or back yard brawlers. However, I do think they do still have underground bare knuckle fights.

Open weight tournaments do still happen in japan i believe, but what you usually get is a heavywieght tourny with some 205ers involved. The game has evolved so much that the lighter guys dont stand a chance in tourneys like this anymore.

The UFC definitly wouldnt do this because of the potential backlash from the US sanctioning bodies.

Maybe if the first round was one pay-per-view then the second round fights could be a diff pay-per-view that way they could still get camps in and wouldn't fight more than one time a night. I've always been a fan of tournaments loved Prides open weight stuff. I think that some of the smaller guys would do well and it would be cool to see who got matched up.
