A source within the UFC has confirmed to Inside Fights that BJ Penn will likely defend his lightweight title against Diego Sanchez in the main event of UFC 105.

Penn has claimed that he would never fight in the United Kingdom again after earning what he thought was an unacceptable purse for his fight against Joe Stevenson. The internal belief is that the free television show will likely pull in millions of viewers, and that kind of viewer base can help turn Penn and Sanchez into even bigger stars, which will translate into bigger pay per view buyrates for both fighters down the road.

MAYBE you heard it else where? if it is, i do apologize for starting up such a discussion and leading BJ's fans in the wrong direction. however, i did provide YOU and others on proof of evidence that's been exposed. so, if you do say it's false, PLEASE do go back to your resources and attach it to this discussion board. shoots!

ITs going to be a great fight but my boy bj is going to win, dont doubt sanchez ground skills he trains with saulo ribiero a multiple adcc champ and mundial champ known as one of the best ever, id put him in my top five perhaps. Diego will be working on his hands a lot becuase everybody knows bj and rampage have the best hands in the ufc no doubt... bj will out box him and most likely take a tko decision i just dont see him tapping Diego as easily as Florian, or stevenson even tho they are both black belts their not under such a phenom like saulo diego trains with some bad mutha fuckers bj needs to be ready and walk out on top like i know he can!

Doesn't seem to be confirmed yet through some of the comments but I don't know if BJ would go for that because if it does air for Free on Spike, good for us, bad for income wise on the cut off of PPV unless they are going for long term hopes which in my opinion is not good because this sport does not guarantee long term benefits off of this fight.

It would make sense in my opinion to fight in Staples Center in Cali which would co Headline with Lyoto Machida vs Shogun in UFC 104 which gives BJ just enough time to rest and prepare but yet maintain his physical shape. On top of that, he successfully trained with Marinovich and would be an easy transition for BJ.

Either way, it would be awesome to watch and wishing BJ the best of luck. I hope he kicks his ass!

Aloha,

Dave

there's a big possibility that the PENN vs. SANCHEZ WILL headline UFC 105. there's still a low percentage that it MIGHT NOT happen. however, i did a little more diggin' in and found another site exposing the UFC 105 headliner. here's another snip...

aloha.

A lightweight championship bout between 155-pound title-holder BJ Penn and challenger Diego Sanchez is set to headline UFC 105 on November 14 in Manchester, England, according to Inside Fights, citing a source within the UFC.

Penn (14-5-1) successfully defended the lightweight belt earlier this month at UFC 101, defeating Kenny Florian by fourth-round submission for his fourth win in last five fights. Prior to a January loss to Georges St-Pierre at welterweight, “The Prodigy” won consecutive lightweight bouts over Jens Pulver, Joe Stevenson, and Sean Sherk.

Following his win over Florian, Penn announced that he’d like to return to the Octagon quickly to take on Sanchez and it appears he’ll get his wish by headlining UFC 105, which is expected to air for free on tape-delay on Spike TV.

Sanchez (23-2), a former welterweight contender with wins over the likes of Nick Diaz, Joe Riggs, and Karo Parisyan, made his anticipated lightweight debut in February with a unanimous decision over Joe Stevenson. In his most-recent fight, “Nightmare” topped Clay Guida by split decision in June in a victory that has apparently earned him a shot at the 155-pound belt.
