There has been a lot of people suggesting BJ test himself with either of these guys in the Welterweight class. I'm just curious what you guys think would be the outcome between either of these fights and why?
I dont think hes ready to move up just yet, he just started to build up the conditioning, with a 170 pounder he can still gas, BUT,,,,,we are talking about 3 rounds so, maybe im wrong =) and btw. I want to se Bj vs Matt Serra, would be good "tune up" fight
Talent wise, BJ has got these guys beat!! Although i think at 170 Alves would give BJ some hard competiton. BJ is not ready for 170 conditioning wise. He and his camp need to go to the drawing board and figure out hows he gonna go the distance carrying a few extra pounds...I think Serra or Hughes would be a good warm up high at WW for BJ. No matter what class BJ fights im with him all the way!!! GO PENN!!!

I think john fitch would be a problem and possibly just try and smother BJ and lay and pray and possibly get a decision win like he tends to. I think Alves seems like he'd be a problem but BJ's hands would beat up Alves standing up. Best thing for BJ is a tune up fight with someone he should beat like Hughes (but he wont want it cause he knows he'll get his ass kicked). Koschek would be good too.
Jon Fitch would be an easy match, his hands skills are know were compared to BJs. His last 5 wins were all by Decesion. He doesnt finish fights because he doesnt have the skills to. Thiago Alves is another story, hes got a lot of size and power over BJ. But soon.BJ will be as strong as ever and will ultimately beat him if he fought him. I dont think BJ should fight Serra again because theyve already fought.
Actually, my opinion is to allow BJ to avenge his loss against Matt Hughes to warm up in the WW division. When he wins, to fight someone like Josh Koscheck who has a style of fighting like GSP and who is on a winning streak as of late. When he wins that, GSP vs BJ Penn III
Penn vs Fitch - They would meet in the middle and trade shots for a moment, Bj ROCKS Fitch with an uppercut! Fitch fall to the ground hurt but not out followed by furious elbows by Penn. John scrambles to his feet desperately trying to push Penn against the cage for a take down. Bj begins to chip away with elbows and open-handed shots to his ear, all the while Fitch never even getting close to a takedown.Round one Ends and Round two begins.Fitch already feeling the power in BJ's hands he does'nt even want to stand with him immediately shooting with no luck. Penn sprawls out quick as a cat catching Fitch with a right hook on the way up. Fitch once again falls to his back.Penn is all over him at this point with elbows and punches. Fitch in survival mode rolls giving BJ his back. And thats a wrap. Penn by rear-naked choke.late in the second round.
Penn vs Alvez- Meeting in the middle, they circle each other both men patient, not rushing in too fast. Thiago throws a lazy high kick that Penn easily avoids. They start to exchange, neither men having much luck until Thiago throws a thunderous leg kick that Penn immediately counters with a right that staggers Alvez stumbling into the fence, Penn chasing along after, landing a left hook, a right knee follows. Penn goes to work in the clinch with stiff uppercuts. Bj pushes off landing a left cross and a right hook that puts Alvez to sleep. Bj KO first round.
Lightweight, welterweight, it doesnt matter now that Bj wants to submit his legacy as the greatest fighter this new found motivation has made him look unbelievable, magnifying his already amazing skills. Like so many has said before, Bj is the only person that can beat Bj. And it looks like he is done losing because he didn't put the work in. Just my opinion.
Fitch would probably drop a decision to Penn, Alves would either win by knockout or lose by submission. Fitch needs to improve his striking before he can compete effectively against an elite fighter like Penn or St Pierre. Alves has huge power and his leg kicks could wear Penn out. Could is the key word because I think BJ would have a game plan that would take that into account. I think Penn would beat either guy, but he would have to be well prepared.
A couple of people mention a Serra- Penn rematch. I would like to see a purely Jiu Jitsu match between those two. I think Penn would win, but it would be fun to watch.
