I noticed in some of BJ's videos that he's been eating a lot healthier and as a result he's been getting into better shape. Does anyone have insight or knowledge on nutrition for mma? I want to know what to eat, when to eat certain foods, and how to use the different nutrition to enhance my training ability. Thanks.

The first word that comes to mind is BALANCE. If you have balance in your diet you will have nothing to worry about. As a bodybuilding competitor I have had to figure what type of diet is best for me. Everyones body had a different chemical and mechanical differences, so whats good for one person can be bad for another. I got with 20% fat, 45% carbs, and 35% protein diet. Lean meats is the perfect protein such as lean ground turkey, lean chicken breast, lean beef, and solid white tuna. Brown rice and whole wheat pasta are the best carbs. Peanut butter and mixed dry nuts are the best fats with good omega-3 fats. Putting these foods in your daily diet along with fresh fruits and veggies will enhance your training to next level. Eating carbs and protein are essential after training sessions to replenish what you burnt and exhausted during your training session.

I have since last week been quite ill with sickness and without too much detail, everything that comes with a vomiting virus.
My daughters had it a week before, so i knew it was coming.
Now since last thursday evening i have had one bowl of soup , and 2 boiled eggs and bread.
Its now monday here and i was wondering what advice you would give for me to regain some kind of energy and resolve back.
I feel quite drained to be fair, and have just made sure i was hydrated .

Any advice would be very welcome, and for sure everything thats already been said been very helpful in everyday life.
Im 38 now and just for keeping healthy and fit is my goal.

A super high protein diet and little to no carbs is NOT good for a fighter. If you are training for a fight as I am right now and trying to diet at the same time to make weight you will defenitley need a good amount of carbs to push you through 3-4 hours of total training per day plus your regular routine.

A high protein diet/no carb diet is good for a quick weight loss start for an average non training person, but not for a fighter.

When in training I have meals at 8am 10am 12pm, 2pm, 4pm 6:30pm and small snacks at 8pm and 10pm. Bigger meals (400-600 calories at 8, 12 and 4 and smaller snacks 100-300 calories at all other times)

this keeps me not too hungry throughout the day and keeps energy constantly in my system as I workout hard, try to stay strong and make the cut from 175 to 154 for my Muay Thai fights.

Harry if you can get your hands on oil of oregano take it its one of the best things to kill viruses and bacteria!!!! if you can get it in your system even if you are puking it should get you to stop!!! you will want to make sure it is purchased at a health food store and make sure its "wild crafted" and either use the liquid extract or capsules and take BEFORE a meal!!!! hope you are feeling better soon!!!! let me know if it helps you....

Your right Ryan about the balance diet and the foods to eat...but i would just like to comment on the peanut butter and mixed nuts.... Peanuts are not a good source of omega 3 the best for that would be eating fish!! to get the DHA and EPA for the brain.. you may get a small amount of omega 3 oil from them but you will not get DHA and EPA from that.... and just for people who are trying to watch there weight, dont over due the nuts they are VERY high in cals.... as for the peanut butter... just becareful that your peanut butter only contains peanuts and not 5 types of sugar then peanuts as ingredients go!!!! Make sure not to buy roasted nuts because once they are roasted and bagged the oils turn carcinogenic and are very bad for the body...so buy raw and roast them yourself.... also eating raw nuts are very hard on the body because we do not have the enzymes to break them down properly and are hard on the digestive system... just thought i would pass on the info!!!! ENJOY YOUR NUTS!!!! :)

for the most part "babar1" got it right just stick with the rule - if it has ingredients don't eat it. Good carbs - stay away from breads (I could write a book on why), instead go for yams, brown rice, beans, bananna, etc.

Nothing like a lean piece of chicken breast and some dark green, spinach or broccoli and some fruit on the side. As long as you are eating clean you are in the game. Cutting out fast food is like accomplishing most of the task at hand. Salmon is a winner also.
