anyone have any thoughts on the points scored in BJJ. I think it should be submit or tie. When I went to a tourny and it was like that the matches were so good I would like to see more of that
at the mundials, at one point, everyone grappling at that specific time was being held in side control. no one was trying submissions[this was in blue and purple, we didnt see brown and black because we went to the beach] this made for a very boring tournament. i think they should score fights like this: 6-7 min [or however long] with no score, if theres no submission then there could be a short 1-2 min overtime with the traditional scoring. that would cut down on stalling.
Its rediculous, I just recently lost at a tournament by points, but what I think is dumb is that he never once had me in any trouble! His positions were gained off of my sumission attempts. especially for someone like me who likes to fight from my back. If i go for a Triangle or arm bar and give up side control he gets points for that crap but I am the one fighting? I wont lie he had pretty good defense. but I was consistantly attacking him, even if you get a "dominating position" what good is it if you cant finish. Its like having a loaded gun but you dont have any fingers to pull the trigger. Its sad all these wrestlers go to BJJ tounaments too and pull that crap and win.
I think submission attempts should be worth points. I train really hard to finish fights now. My instructor puts us in 4 min Kill or fail matches where if you dont submit you dont win. I think it has helped because I mean if Im finishing under 4 min I will do better in tounaments where most matches are 5 - 6 min.
i absolutely agree with u guys about how sorry ass bitches stall to win tournaments. they make the beautiful art of jiu jitsu so ugly. when i competed in the pan ams this year, i saw a guy wearing a shirt that summed up my feelings perfectly, "POINTS ARE FOR PUSSIES"
