Flashback | Frank Mir Once Said He Hits Harder Than JDS | UFC NEWS
“I’m a lot bigger than (Junior) Dos Santos and I hit a lot harder. I’m a taller, longer athlete … quicker; I’ll constantly pepper him with shots when he comes in and make him pay when I do hit him with something. When I hit Cheick Kongo, the punch alone threw him halfway across the Octagon. On the night of the fight, neither one of us are going to pull any punches. If I catch him with something, I’ll try to hurt him with it.”
Oh the irony!
Prior to Frank Mir’s bout against Roy Nelson he took to some MMAMath strategic hype to explain why he thought he had the upper hand on “Big Country”.
While using the fight with Junior dos Santos as a measuring stick to cement his case he stated the above.
As luck would have we fast forward into time and Mir now gets the chance to prove what he once stated later this month when he fights JDS for the UFC’s heavyweight title at UFC 146.
But can he do it?

my 2nd fav fighter right behind bj. lets go JDS! damn frank mir, this is a nightmare matchup for him. frank doesnt have the cardio or stand up skills to last a round with jds. and he certainly doesnt have the takedowns skills to even threaten jds for a second. jds by watever he wants.
all he has to do is hit harder. thats the only thing about that statement that is about JDS.

I feel bad for frank Mir
If frank finds a way to get it to the ground he has a good shot to win. That said Frank’s takedowns have never been anything to worry about. His chin is glass these days and ever since he bulked up his cardio is trash. I’d like to see him go back to the 240 lb version and be quicker. The bulking up to be able to push back against lesnar and carwin was a horrible plan. Unfortunately I think it’s more of a sign that the older frank gets the lazier he gets. JDS is brutal fashion
I remember him saying it was stupid for him to go up that much weight and he didnt feel comfortable at that weight.. And wanted to head back down to around 245..
Frank is a knob. He is going to get pimp slapped until the ref pulls JDS off of him. Cain rematch would have been a better for the fans. Frank is slower, he does not hit harder, equal bjj, has a glass chin, less cardio, and usually has a lousy game plan.

I like Frank especially for his interviews because he’s well spoken but, he’s gonna get smashed. I’m also not so sure that JDS will be as vulnerable on the ground as most believe. I hope we get to see some of Juniors ground game.

Mir is a big dude but no way does he pack a harder punch than JDS…its just silly. I can barely remember him knocking anyone out with a punch. Anyone with any sense has JDS winning this by KO probably inside rd1. Mir was getting tuned up by Big Nog before it went to the ground, and he got took apart by Carwin when he tried to stand and bang.
he was doing fine with carwin until he tried to clinch with him…
And look how that worked out….he got smashed.
Yeah… Frank is the only person I’ve seen KO’ed while being dirty boxed. Carwin’s performance would make Randy proud.
