Fitch vs. Hendricks In The Works For UFC 141

As we reported almost a month ago Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks is in the works for Jon’s return to action.
We did however, get the venue wrong. In our initial report, we speculated that Fitch would return to his hometown of San Jose for UFC 139 but sources are now indicating that the Fitch vs. Hendricks bout will take place at UFC 141 in Las Vegas.
UFC 141 is set to take place on Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The end-of-year pay-per-view event will feature a five-round non-title fight between former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and newly signed heavyweight stand-out Alistair Overeem.
Fitch was forced to put his career on hold after a unanimous draw decision was handed down in his UFC 127 bout with BJ Penn. The long-time number two ranked welterweight fighter has been recovering and rehabbing from shoulder surgery suffered in training almost ever since. The AKA standout has been vocal about only wanting to face either GSP or BJ Penn in his return to UFC action, however, with both fighters booked, it would appear that he has agreed to settle on a bout versus Johny Hendricks.
Fitch currently holds one of the most impressive records in UFC history, with only one loss and one draw out of fifteen-UFC-fights he remains atop the welterweight ladder unless someone can knock him off.
Hendricks was last seen in action against Mike Pierce at UFC 133. He took it to Pierce in a back and forth battle and did enough to win on the judges’ cards via split decision. He is a two-time NCAA division 1 national champ, a four-time All American for OSU and a three-time “Big 12 Conference” champion in wrestling. His current streak in the UFC is just at two victories due to his first and only professional loss at the hands of Rick Story back in December of 2010.

Should be one hell of a wrestling match
Nah Hendricks should cause Fitch problems in the take-down game, I’m thinking Hendricks keeps it up and tries to use his power to win.
Hendricks is going to get schooled, Fitch beats him in every area, I know im about to get a lot of crap for saying that since everyone hates Fitch. But its true, Grappling, Striking, Cardio, Chin, Heart. Fitch is better in every aspect. 98% of fans may hate him because hes “Boring” but he does what a competitor is supposed to do, and thats Win.
I agree. But if Fitch doesn’t set d pace, n dominate, it will b a snorefest.
I don’t think anyone doubts that Fitch will win, but damn can he finish a fight that’s a gimme? He wins in the most boring way possible. From a fan’s perspective I’d rather watch a fighter lose in exciting fashion than win in a boring fashion.
STOP H8ING ON JON, WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT HES THE #2 AND WE ALL NO THAT
Stefano, by #2, im assuming you mean SHIT ?
I don’t really notice anyone hating on him on these post, but just pointing out the obvious that he’s gonna win in an unbearable boring fashion. Really accomplished winner right here, but it doesn’t mean its entertaining!
This is gunna be a wrestling match.
Correct. To predict that any of Fitch’s fights will be a wrestling match is like saying that any of BJ’s fights are gonna be a scrap.
War Fitch but like both guys
im glad another good fighter like BJ isnt wasted in a Fitch fight. i would have like to seen fitch and shields because i dont think he would have been able to lay on one onf the most dangerous jiu jitsu guys
Meh
If Fitch can’t beat Hendricks convincingly then he does not deserve to be no.2 ww.
If Fitch can’t finish Hendricks, he should be sent to the undercard.
Well I will still respectfully give him the #2 spot in the WW division, I mean he’s not losing! But at the same time I would tie BJ as the 2nd best WW, a draw basically equals a tie…duh! The main problem w/ Fitch & I’m sure its apparent to most, is his marketability! Who can win so many matches, but collectively have so many MMA fans not wanna see him fight! For example, just imagine if I had two televisions out w/ a Fitch fight & BJ fight showing, how much ppl will be watching each tv? Haha, sorry kinda got lengthy there, just my opinion!
big step down for fitch, it’s straight out disrespectful to give him this fight and not someone of his caliber, and it shouldn’t make a tiny difference that he’s “boring”.
Agreed, even if you hate the guy, its BS. No one beats him except GSP and possibly BJ depending on how you look at fights, he deserves respect. Boring or not Fitch wins simple as that
Yep. Agreed. The guy has beaten Alves twice and Paulo Thiago as well. Koscheck lost to both those guys. At least give him a top 10 or top 15 guy!
I agree, the guy deserves at least a top 10 guy. Let’s see….Well GSP, Condit, BJ, Diaz, Shields, Ellenberger, Story, Kampmann, Johnson, Brenneman, Kos, Ebersole, MacDonald & Hughes are all set to fight in the next couple of months, Alves he’s fought twice already, and Diego is injured. Either Fitch waits to fight a top 10 fighter or he gets back to action as soon as possible with a fight against Hendricks and get noticed with a dominating win. I think Fitch will have alot of options after his fight with Hendricks, but until then, there’s really no one else for him to fight.
I hope your all ready for the most BOOOOOORING wrestling match ever ….Im gonna go ahead and skip this ….I’d rather watch WNBA.
“good luck” – Anonymous voice from the movie Taken
**** this fight will suck ass. if it wasn’t for brock vs reem i wouldn’t bother ordering the ppv. if it’s a no1 contender fight it’ll be a ****ing boring GSP vs Winner fight might as well watch gay porn. lol
Fitch is so boring I’d pay for him NOT to fight! Maybe we can all chip in and pay him to stay home and let REAL fighters entertain the fans.
I really don’t want to fall asleep and miss the maincard, because of Fitch’s dry-hump fightingstyle…
Just so people know Hendricks went 56-1 in his senior year D1 wrestling only loss was in finals, in which he took 2nd. The 2 previous years he was D-1 champ. He was a 4-time all american, and 3-time big 12 conference champ. If anyone gets taken down it will be Fitch
A taste of his own medicine, would still be boring but the irony can make up for that hahaha
Fun fact: Only GSP (16-2) and Anderson Silva (14-0) have a better UFC record than Fitch (13-1-1)
I wonder how many people have been put to sleep by Fitch. And I don’t mean by rear naked choke in the cage…..What I mean is people at home paying good money to see exciting fights and true martial artists, falling asleep while he’s laying on top of his opponents doing absolutely nothing substantial and still gets a win from judges that can’t seem to understand that laying on top doing nothing is NOT being the most aggressive fighter and it’s NOT having octagon control. It’s a way to avoid the fight.
Referees should stand them up sooner too. No substantial movement or submission attempts? Stand them the fook up! Judges need to stop giving 10 points for laying on top for 5 minutes.
