FULL FIGHT | Ian McCall Lost in the Most Unexpected Way Possible at RIZIN

Justin Golightly - December 29, 2017

After a string of some of the worst luck the MMA world has ever seen, Ian McCall is out of the UFC and healthier than ever. In his first fight since January, he was set to enter into Japan’s RIZIN ring to fight smart-mouthed prospect Manel Kape. The two nearly came to blows in their first staredown, then actually threw strikes at each other at the weigh-ins. So when the time actually came to fight, the air was electric and people were not disappointed. That is, until the fight ended. Not because Ian McCall was actually beat by Kape, but because of a cut caused by ring ropes. Ian Mccall losing via TKO (Rope Cut) stoppage has to be a first. #RIZINFF pic.twitter.com/eewlAgjG3r

Ian McCall Looking Forward to Stomping on 'Slob' Manel Kape's Head in RIZIN

Justin Golightly - October 24, 2017

Former UFC flyweight title contender Ian McCall didn’t take long to jump ship to RIZIN. It was so quick, it was like a he grabbed his suitcase, walked to a dock, and got on a ship like in Mortal Kombat. He had made up his mind he was going to respectfully confront Kyoji Horiguchi, eyeing to fight him in the final of the RIZIN bantamweight grand prix. Of course, he’d have to get through Manel Kape first. His wild man opponent proved he’s willing to say whatever it takes to get under McCall’s skin, but Kape needs to be careful what he wishes for. Hahahah keep wishing u fucking retard, Sort out your phycological problems you mental fuck. I’ll finish you in one round

Justin Golightly - October 19, 2017

Just a couple of days after his UFC release, flyweight Ian McCall signed on with Japanese fighting organization RIZIN. He recently spoke in-depth to us about him jumping ship to the promotion, which is enjoying a meteoric rise from the ashes of Pride. He’ll be competing in the electric bantamweight grand prix and has his eyes on former UFC fighter Kyoji Horiguchi. Before McCall can get to him though, he’ll have to get through Manel Kape though. His potential remains somewhat of a mystery besides his first round finish of Erson Yamamoto last weekend, but right now it’s his mouth that’s running amok. “Well, I was finally healthy and I just felt like leaving the UFC and where else would I go besides here? There’s no where else I’d rather be. That’s why I’m here. I’m excited to hear about this grand prix and excited to fight these sort of fighters. It’s a good, talented group of people so I’m excited to be here. But specifically you [Kyoji Horiguchi]. I’m coming for you. Everybody else wants you, I want you too. We should have fought in the UFC and he’s very accomplished. He’s very good and I think that he’s got the most steam behind everybody because he’s the best.” — Ian McCall at the RIZIN press conference.

Flyweight contender Ian McCall cuts ties with UFC, shares his pricetag heading into free agency

Tom Taylor - October 10, 2017

Ian McCall, who has long stood out as one of the flyweight division’s premier players, is no longer a member of the UFC roster. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, the flyweight star revealed that he had been released from his contract, and that he’s now eyeing big-money fights overseas – particularly in the ring of Japan’s Rizin Fighting Federation. Wherever he ends up, however, he’s after paydays of $100,000 or more (though he’s willing to accept a $50,000 to show, $50,000 to win deal).

Ian McCall: There's something wrong inside of me, I can't cut weight anymore

Tom Taylor - April 20, 2017

To say UFC flyweight Ian McCall has been unlucky of late would be an understatement. Since he last fought in January of 2015, he has been scheduled to fight five separate times, and not one of these scheduled fights has come to fruition. Though several of these cancelled fights have been due to opponent injuries and other issues, many of them can also be attributed to bouts of illness on McCall’s side. Apparently, these bouts of illness are not just random bugs, but part of a larger health problem that seems to be thrown into overdrive by weight cuts.

Ian McCall loses another opponent, UFC seeking replacement

Tom Taylor - January 30, 2017

Since July of 2015, popular UFC flyweight Ian McCall has been scheduled for five fights. Not a single one of them has happened. First, he was scheduled for an August 2015 bout with Dustin Ortiz, which unfortunately fell through when he sustained an injury in training. Roughly one year later, he was scheduled for a fight with Justin Scoggins, which was cancelled at the last minute when Scoggins announced he wouldn’t be making weight for the fight. Just one month after that, McCall had another bout fall through, when Ray Borg was forced to withdraw from their planned meeting with an illness. Then, in November of 2016, McCall was scheduled for a fight with the retiring Neil Seery. Unfortunately, McCall fell ill in the days leading up to this bout, and was forced to make a withdrawal of his own. This bout was then rescheduled for UFC 208 on February 11, but unfortunately, it has once again been scrapped, as Seery has been forced to withdraw after the tragic passing of his mother in law.
